The Spyderco Kapara is based on Australian custom knifemaker Alistair Phillips’ popular “Redback” folder design. Named after an Australian spider with a distinctive red stripe along the back of its abdomen, Spyderco’s Kapara (another name for the same redback spider) faithfully replicates Phillips’ distinctive style and craftsmanship, as well as the signature red backspacer of his custom knife.

Phillips originally created the Kapara as a personal carry knife to help him prepare healthy, vegetable-based meals. Its CPM S30V stainless steel blade is full-flat ground for exceptional edge geometry and has a fully accessible Trademark Round Hole for convenient one-handed opening with either hand. The gracefully styled handle has full, skeletonized stainless steel liners that provide structural strength and form the basis of the knife’s patented Compression Lock mechanism. They are capped by stunning solid carbon fiber scales that are precisely crowned to provide a secure, extremely comfortable grip. An index-finger choil at the base of the blade allows the user to choke up for enhanced control and helps draw attention to machined details on both sides of the blade’s pivot.

To keep the Kapara poised for instant access, it includes a reversible deep-pocket wire clip for left or right-side, tip-up carry and a generously sized lanyard hole for the easy attachment of fobs or lanyards.

    kapara

What can I say, Spyderco at they're best. Another beauty from theTaichung factory. Mine arrived absolutely perfect, maybe needed a little lube but wow. The action OOTB was analagous to a nicely broken in PM2/Caribbean hybrid. Fidget friendly and opens in a multitude of ways. The lock up is solid and does so with a satisfying clunk. Some say that the Spidey hole could have done with some chamforing but the sharp edge on the hole really does help when performing your flicks and will smooth out in time. What a cracker. Thanks HH

    Spyderco Kapara

Lovely knife- smooth, sleek and lightweight. Perhaps not everybody's taste in blade shape but I love it's balance between handle and blade. Prepping lots of meals with it- the slenderness of the handle makes peeling potatoes a pleasure.

    Spyderco Kapara

Knives are built for one thing right? To cut. So, I shouldn't be suprised at the fact when one does ,right? Thing is, this blade cuts on a different level. It sails through anything you put in front of it ; food, cardboard, string, fingers. Just glance at her wrong and she may bite you. This beauty loves to slice. It's built for food prep . On the aesthetics though, this is a gorgeously turned out folder, impeccably finished by those in Taiwan,.and it really is a good looker with it's full milled carbon fiber scales and it's "Red back spider" back spacer. It's a pleasure to own .....just watch those fingers !

    Ultra sharp

Posted by Eskimo Quin on 14th Oct 2022

I have lots of knives from Opinel up to Winkler but none are as sharp as this. This is my second Taiwanese Spyderco and, although I’ve never had a complaint with the blades from Golden, the fit & finish on my Bradley & this Kapara are a level up. Prior to getting this I was mainly using a PM2, the Bradley & my mini Commander from Emerson. A difference with the Kapara is that the handle has a lot less depth to it. To the extent that I feel a little unsure of my grip on the knife when I pinch the compression lock. This was not mentioned in the reviews I read so I mention it here. The handle is great but it’s shallow compared to most of my other knifes, I’m sure I’ll get used to it. I’ve bought all the knives where the reviews say “god damnit man this sucker cuts you if you just look at it the wrong way!” But none of them are on the same level as this sharpness wise

    Best knife ever

Posted by JMC on 18th Aug 2021

I got quite a few Benchmades, 940, Bugout, Bailout. I have also some other spydercos, Smock or Spydiechef between others. This knife is just in another level. The fit and finish is simply perfect. The ergonomics of this knife, OMG, the ergonomics of this knife. It is slice, it is a great food prep knife but also a good edc folder. It is strong, more than it looks. The lock is smooth and it drops freely. Since I got it, no other knife has gone into my pocket. To me, the kapara is the perfect knife.

    Superb Knife

Posted by Malcolm M on 6th Jul 2021

Keep these collaborations going Spyderco, please. Another fantastic knife from their best plant (taiwan). Beautiful contoured CF scales, razor sharp blade with proper slim sock, plenty of grip options and superb action and fit and finish. My only mild complaint is the back lock - it's a bit stiff due to the gauge of the steel but all in all, a cracker. Need Mr Phillips to pen some more designs for spyderco, following M S from Poland on his superb range.

    Wow what a blade!

Posted by EG on 23rd Apr 2021

So i own a "few" Spydercos. All of them are beautiful tools but this is the first that I would put into the class of a gentleman's blade. I have a Para 3 Black and that's a beast. It means business but the Kapara in comparison is smooth, smooth, smooth. It feels completely different in the hand to all the other Spydies I own. It's sleek, ergonomic and very tactile. The carbon fibre scales are gorgeous and it opens like a dream. Mine came super sharp out the box - like a scapel. Overall a gorgeous knife.
