Based on one of Serge Panchenko’s most popular custom designs, the Spyderco Dog Tag Carbon Fibre is a unique departure from Spyderco’s typical folding knife construction methods. Its single-sided handle is fabricated from solid titanium and accurately replicates the size and shape of a military dog tag. The centre of the handle scale is machined to create an integral spring bar that houses a steel ball bearing for the blade’s detent mechanism. At the top of the handle is a aluminium back strap that defines the blade’s limits of travel in both the open and closed positions and provides protection from the edge when the knife is closed.
The “business end” of the Dog Tag is a sheep-foot style blade made from premium CPM S30V particle metallurgy stainless steel with a stonewashed finish. To protect the edge when closed, the blade is chisel ground with a single flat bevel on the front side, an unusual feature for a Spyderco knife. The Trademark Round Hole in the blade allows easy opening, and a subtle swedge (unsharpened bevel) and a decorative fuller (groove) near the spine add a touch of style. The blade’s pivot is also accentuated by a round aluminium disk that provides stability and structural strength as well as an aesthetic touch.
A non-locking folder, the Dog Tag’s blade is held in place in the open position by a detent mechanism. A ball bearing in the handle scale’s integral spring arm indexes holes in the tang of the blade to hold it both closed and open. Since the blade does not lock, care should be taken during use to apply cutting pressure only in a direction that maintains the knife’s open position.
This version of the Dog Tag features a handle machined from a solid piece of black carbon fibre/G-10 laminate with an inlaid detent spring arm. The blade and all metal hardware have a matching black titanium carbonitride coating.

Lovely small compact knife which fits nicely on my key ring to replace one that broke. A number of uses for such a small blade including the peeling of fruit!
I have been longing for a legal, high quality functional as well as practical, yet aesthetically pleasing Dog Tag to wear. I initially tried the WE one, but it didn't cut the mustard (if you'll excuse the pun), it was 'ok' but wasn't a folder, so from a legal standpoint, even though it was a tiny blade, would be considered a ;'full tang' or 'fixed' blade. Plus the blade part was free to fall out, so wasn't the most practical, and is actually more expensive than this Spyderco Version. I bought a Silipac Magnetic Bead, (from HH obviously) and just kept the body of the Silipac , and attached this Dog Tag to it, and then purchased a Sterling Silver Greek chain, thick enough to hold this, and tough enough to withstand a good yank, should you need to remove and deploy the Tag quickly. Now I have a very cool looking Tag which looks like a slither of Carbon Fibre, yet hides an extremely practical *legal* blade. Couple that with the fact it's a Serge Panchenko design, and an S30V Stainless Steel blade, what else could you possibly ask for? And last but not least; the outstanding service from HH, speed of delivery, and the tolerance to put up with me trying this and that till I find the right piece of kit from them, a big thank you to Rich and Nick :)
Excellent bit of kit! Just what I was looking for.
Yup... it's a lot of money for such a tiny knife but it's a solidly built, light weight and pretty little UK legal folder. Great steel, fit and finish was perfect, easy to open and close one handed but firm enough to be sure it wont open when you're wearing it. Really can't fault it.
Superb little cutting tool, absolutely stunning in the hand with top quality fit and finish. The carbon/G10 handle is really beautiful - in a 'tacticool' kind of way - and the S30V is a great steel. Wasn't sure about the chisel grind, but I like it! Might get the aluminium version too...
