Will start by saying there not as tuff as the leatherman Raptors , but I like these better . The reasons I prefer these is I find them easier to use and the ‘extras’ on it more useful in day to day use the others review didn’t like it (all allowed our own opinions After all) But a couple of the negatives identified I disagree with , the strap cutter I’d only use with the shears closed , if there open I’d cut the strap with them not the hook ? As to the glass breaker haven’t quite worked out how you’d get glass all over your hands as it’s not difficult to break glass holding the shears by ratchet end . Plus hand on heart I can’t see how it could cost That much critical time deploying the different functions on it as with a bit of practice I’m more than happy in my ability to use them in work (also emergency medicine) think it’s just a case of personal like and dislikes . So I definitely would recommend them .
I recently got myself a set of parashears as they looked like they could rival the leatherman raptors I have. Sadly the SOG Parashears have a lot of potential, if only they were designed better. The side tools require two hands to open and close as it has a reverse locking mechanism. The strap cutter can only be used when the shears are folded over and it will get in the way preventing the shears from being able to close fully when cutting. You can only access the side tool and glass braker when the shears are folded over meaning that you would have to sit opening and closing the shears in an emergency. The position of the glass braker also means that it is very likely that your fingers will get covered in glass. If you wear thick gloves with protective knuckles good luck actually getting the glass braker to hit before your knuckles. The way they store in the sheath when folded, means that if you were to drop them you could damage the gears making them useless. If you are a professional I would not recommend these shears as it could cost valuable time switching between all the different tools that you may need in a rescue. If you are a civilian that is looking for some shears to edc or carry in a bag then the lightweight construction would make these ideal, however, in that instance you would be better off buying a cheap pare of emt shears and get yourself a decent multitool. Over all very disappointed with SOG i carry and use a lot of their kit but these will most likely go in the bottom of a bag and forgotten about.
