I use this a lot, but that's because I don't mind if breaks

Posted by Darren Tipper on 25th Jul 2024

Some Rough Ryder knives are a real bargain, where as this one is just priced correctly. It looks like a nice knife, but it isn't built that way. The scales are held on by one screw in the handle and at the bolster end, they are just glued. And they come loose. I took this apart to fix and discovered it is a bit rough round the edges inside. However now it is fixed (yes Heinnie would have replaced it I'm sure, but if you don't tinker you don't learn) I find that the stout wharncliffe blade to be really useful, a good DIY knife - for when you need one to be EDC,. Because I don't love this knife, it gets a lot of dirty jobs. but it handles them well. At least now that I have reinforced the scales.

    RR Micarta

Posted by Walker on 10th Jan 2024

I've owned a lot of wharncliffe pocket knives and worn out a few.. been looking for a new one for a while, and tried the RR Blue micarta- pretty, but the blade form doesn't allow a reliable pinch... This is a delight, the nail nick gives a bit of extra grip, don't have to look at it to open the very useful blade, scalpel sharp out of the box, using the point to cut card templates.. well constructed and unfussy, it feels good in the hand, and the deep blade has enough heft for harder jobs in the garden or workshop. Not sure if the finish on the bolsters will last? (micro scratch on arrival) but the robust construction makes this the companion I wanted. Simple but elegant contemporary take on a classic, form and function making a perfect work tool. (thanks for the zip pouch, perfect for camera memory cards! who keeps their knife in it?)

    ROUGH RIDER APTA FOLDER MICARTA

Posted by Steven Barraclough on 15th Oct 2022

First of all, the standard of service fromHH is exceptional. This time they really surpassed themselves. Ordered late Friday afternoon and delivered before 2 pm the following day. I must have just caught the collection from DPD. On to the knife. Anyway you look at it this is a he'll of a modern folder for the money. Only floor I can spot is minor gappingbetween backspring and bolsters made with side plates. I had to use a powerfull flashlight to see it.. Blade pull is about a 7 and can be pinched open. Lock up is firm and safe with a solid halfstop. I have no problems with vg10 as a blade steel. It strops up to razor sharpness and indeed it was like a razor straight from the box. Spare screws and torn wrench is a nice touch. Handle provides a secure four finger grip and the micarta is very attractive and contoured very well. This will be my Ed.c for some time and should I lose it I will be upset but not heartbrocken as I would be with a more expensive model. This is a must for any slipjoint collector. Modern or otherwise.
