Benchmade Seven Ten
Benchmade Seven Ten
The Benchmade Seven Ten represents one of the most significant moments in modern folding knife history. Designed by Bill McHenry and Jason Williams and introduced in 1999, the 710 was the first Benchmade knife to feature the revolutionary AXIS lock mechanism. This collaboration between Benchmade and the renowned custom knifemaking team didn't just produce another folder. It changed the entire industry's approach to locking mechanisms and set a new standard for ambidextrous operation.
What makes the Seven Ten special is its unapologetic size and cutting power. The 10.2cm recurve blade delivers serious performance without trying to be compact or understated. Recent editions celebrate the 25th anniversary of the AXIS lock with premium materials including S90V, M390, MagnaCut and even Damascus steel options. Handle choices span anodised aluminium in various colours and finishes.
The AXIS lock remains the star of the show. McHenry and Williams designed this mechanism specifically for the Seven Ten, and Benchmade recognised its potential immediately. The sliding bar system allows for smooth one-handed operation in either direction, exceptional strength under pressure and complete ambidexterity.
Looking at other substantial folders? The Benchmade Adamas offers even more robust construction for extreme duty use. The Benchmade Freek provides a lighter alternative with similar blade length.
