Benchmade Adira

The Benchmade Adira is the brand's dedicated answer to wet-environment performance. Part of the Water Series introduced in 2024, this folder targets anglers, kayakers and anyone working around fresh or saltwater. Benchmade recognised that existing marine knives often compromise on cutting performance or handle ergonomics. The Adira refuses to make those trade-offs. You get a proper working blade in premium steel paired with a thoughtfully designed handle that excels in demanding conditions.

What sets the Adira apart is its use of CPM MagnaCut steel, one of the finest stainless steels developed for knives. This material delivers exceptional toughness, edge retention and corrosion resistance without the brittleness of older super steels. The 9.9cm drop point blade features a flat grind for superior slicing performance. Available in both full-size and 8.1cm Mini configurations, the Adira uses phosphor bronze washers rather than ball bearings for reliability in dirty, wet environments. The Grivory handle material provides excellent grip when wet or gloved, resists chemical damage and weighs remarkably little.

High-visibility orange details mark the Adira as purpose-built for water use. An orange thumb stud and included lanyard ensure you can spot and deploy the knife quickly. The AXIS lock uses stainless steel springs for corrosion resistance. At 22.9cm open but weighing just over 113g, the full-size Adira offers a comfortable four-finger grip without the bulk you'd expect. The distinctive Depth Blue Grivory handles work brilliantly in wet conditions.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Is the Benchmade Adira suitable for saltwater use?
+
The Benchmade Adira is specifically designed for saltwater and freshwater environments as part of Benchmade's Water Series. The knife features CPM MagnaCut steel which offers superior corrosion resistance compared to traditional stainless steels. The AXIS lock mechanism uses stainless steel springs rather than standard carbon steel to prevent rust. However, like all knives used in saltwater, the Adira benefits from rinsing with fresh water after exposure and occasional maintenance. The phosphor bronze washers and Grivory handle material resist corrosion exceptionally well, making this one of the most seawater-capable production folders available.
What makes the Benchmade Adira's handle material special?
+
The Grivory handle material used in the Benchmade Adira is a semi-crystalline engineering plastic with exceptional strength-to-weight ratio and chemical resistance. Unlike traditional handle materials like G10 or Micarta, which can absorb water over time, Grivory has extremely low water absorption and won't swell or degrade in wet conditions. The textured pattern on the scales provides excellent grip when wet or when wearing gloves. While Grivory may feel less premium than metal or wood scales, it's precisely this lightweight, grippy, water-resistant characteristic that makes the Adira so effective for marine use.
Are there different sizes available in the Adira range?
+
The Benchmade Adira range is available in two sizes: the full-size model 18060 and the Mini Adira model 18065. The full-size version features a 9.9cm blade with 22.9cm overall length and weighs approximately 113g. The Mini Adira has an 8.1cm blade with more compact dimensions, weighing around 85g. Both versions use the same CPM MagnaCut steel, Grivory handle material, AXIS lock mechanism and high visibility orange details.
How does MagnaCut steel compare to other marine knife steels?
+
CPM MagnaCut steel used in the Benchmade Adira represents a significant advancement over traditional marine knife steels. Unlike H1 nitrogen steel found in some Spyderco Salt models, MagnaCut achieves corrosion resistance through refined metallurgy rather than eliminating carbon entirely. This means you get better edge retention and easier sharpening than H1 without sacrificing rust resistance. Benchmade heat treats the Adira's MagnaCut to a slightly lower hardness than some applications, prioritising toughness and corrosion resistance over maximum edge retention. For wet environment use, this balance proves ideal.
