    Changing a Classic ?

Posted by Lowey on 18th Apr 2020

    The Opinel D I Y is a take on a multitool I guess ?
I have owned pretty much all the versions over more than fourty years from no2 through to the ridiculous no13 gimmick knife and apart from the two mentioned above have always loved my purchases!

This D I Y model is or has the handle size no9 but the blade is shorter than a no8 ? This blade also has a weird shape to it and even after just a couple of uses I was missing the century old design that works so well !

The bits are located in the handle and even they were a mission to deploy !

I will not be using this model again and have already put the no 8 back in its place ! This one now sadly is just part of the collection, I really thought this D I Y model was a good idea but is let down badly by the very thing that makes Opinel so great ,the blade ?

    Service was great from HH

A Modern twist on a classic

Posted by Mike on 15th Apr 2020

The Opinel no9 D I Y is one of the innovations I guess Opinel feel will bring a hundred plus year old design up to date ?

I got one because, well I like Opinel s and have actually thought about this idea in the past ! And maybe should have suggested it to Opinel way back ? Anyway here we have it ,with a FRN handle which is a far cry from beech wood ?

The knife has also brought to the table a new blade shape ,more of a craft job with wire stripper and cutter notches !

This knife will not ever require the Opinel (knock) as the FRN will not swell ?

Not sure how tough the screwdriver aperture is ,only time will tell ? But it does use standard quarter bits so is useful!

The hex drive is also magnetic so it's nice to use ,but make sure you put the bits in the handle snug or they will fall out !

This model is a bit of a novelty? It won't replace a swiss army knife or multitool etc but it's got one up on a traditional Opinel knife ! But it just ain't the same ? A novelty item ?

Service from HH was as I have always found top notch .....

    Excellent knife

Posted by Bilmor on 28th Jan 2015

Just received this knife and am really pleased with it. This is my 4th opinel and up to now I am very pleased, I was a bit nervous since this was my first non carbon bladed Opinel but I neednt have worried , extremely sharp out of the box and a few passes on the stone and it was splitting hairs. Lovely sturdy knife quite heavy for an opinel. May buy the other colour.
