Description

In 2002 Randall's Adventure & Training (RAT) entered into an exclusive collaboration with Ontario Knife Co in Franklinville, New York to supply a proven set of outdoor knife designs. Ontario is one of the oldest and largest cutlery industries in existence, supplying issue knives to the U.S. military as well as a large civilian market.

The Ontario / RAT knife line bridges the gap between economy, toughness, and real-world features. These knives are designed in the field and built to be used in the field.

The Ontario RAT 1 D2 Orange features a 4-way clip position, heavy- duty open post construction, razor-sharp D2 carbon steel blade, full flat grind, reversible thumb stud, precision pivot screw, lanyard hole and ergonomic handles.

Bigger than it looks in the pic..Feels good in the hand. Blade super sharp..1 handed opening a treat..HH service unbelievably quick, so bear in mind when ordering, as you'll need to be in to receive.

    Fidgetability!

Posted by Barry Evans on 22nd Feb 2021

Bought this after originally buying a Spyderco Chaparral and feeling the urge to try others! So glad I did!! Being somewhat larger, the Rat1 fills the hand so much more and feels very comfortable, especially with the forefinger choil at the top of the handle and the jimping in the thumb position on top of the spine! Love the upgraded D2 steel over the old Aus8, great edge retention and glides through every day tasks. But for me it’s the fidget factor, literally within a week of playing with it and it loosening up, the snap of flicking it open with the slightest of wrist movement is unbelievably satisfying!! The blaze orange scales make it incredibly easy to locate (if you like that kinda thing!) Blade is still perfectly centred and sharp, as was straight out of the box! So good imho, I’ve just ordered the R2D2 with tan scales + satin blade!! Epic Comms + delivery time from HH as always, can’t wait to try the “little brother” when it arrives!!

    Ontario rat 1 D2 orange

Posted by Gordon on 5th Jan 2021

Rapid service from Heinnie as usual. I gave the blade a tickle and a strip as with most from new. The scales on the knife are great I won’t lose it in the woods. Blade centering is spot on, fit and finish are good, no wiggles or play where there shouldn’t be. The blade has a nice strong stable lock up. Ergonomics are good (I am a size 10 large work glove) my only grumble on ergonomics is that I’m left handed and the unlocking and stowing of the blade is more cumbersome due to the liner lock being setup for a right handed person. This is really minor and doesn’t bother me really. The knife was bought as an outdoors knife for situations where a fixed blade isn’t practical, For example walking with the family, doing a bit of foraging and not carrying out major camp tasks. The knife doesn’t take up too much pocket space but is considerably larger than my UK friendly EDC (spyderco urban). Overall a great knife, I’m glad I waited and the orange one came to the UK market. I originally wanted an R2D2 but the orange scales made my mind up.
