Nostalgia alone gets this a 5 star rating!

Posted by Chris on 28th Dec 2017

No really its a great torch. There are better for the money, but for size, holding, usage and accessories its hard to beat. I have a head torch holder for this, a colour filter, a pocket clip, you get the idea. and that because in one way or another I have had one of these for nearly 30 years! From the first D cells to the latest LED, flashing S.O.S. there is familiarity about the maglight thats hard to get away from. The Pro version of this is a little better but not really worth the money versus the competition making this the one to get. the classic chequered grip, the familiar twist of end cap to turn it on, its ability to focus and works about as well with a duracell as any battery. A greta one to have in the kit bag. If you want to travel light then there are other better options but for a good all round AA torch it is a solid 4 star torch that gets 5 for the back up and availability of spare parts. There isn't a walking shop or hardware store that doesn't sell a maglite. There is a reason for that.

A revised classic, but you can do better

An iconic design, and cheap to buy as well. I converted a filament AA Maglite to LED with the Nite-Ize kit a couple of years ago but the authentic Maglite is significantly brighter and the batteries are held more snugly inside. My main objection is that the focusing is pretty crude; for almost all of the range the field doesn't change much, the centre just becomes more or less concentrated, and coverage isn't as smooth as it could be.

    top notch

Best thing ever maglite ever did was to convert there torches to led, it better than the filament bulb by far! the light is bright and adjustable with 4 modes you cant go wrong this is maglite but better!

    Great value

Yes there are better flashlights out there, but few offer the build quality and brightness of this mag. You really can't beat this for the price, and the adjustable focus beam is really useful. Well worth the price, and don't underestimate it!
