I was really disappointed with the Lochby Field Journal. For the price, I expected something far more robust. The binding boards feel like low-grade cardboard that bends far too easily, and the closure system is poorly designed. The aluminum hook is awkward to use, and since it only secures the spine, the journals remain largely exposed. If it gets caught in the rain or you spill something, your notes are unprotected — not what you’d want from a “field” journal. The waxed canvas material itself is strong and well-made, but the overall design doesn’t live up to the promise. This might work as a nice-looking cover for indoor use, but it’s unsuitable for outdoor or travel use where you need real protection. There are other covers available with full zip closures that are easier to use, genuinely weather-resistant, and cost a fraction of the price.
