Description

Gudy van Poppel is a fulltime Dutch Bladesmith well known for his work in both Europe and the United States. He started as a genuine Blacksmith and has been making blades for several decades. His Gitano design for LionSteel he describes thus, "My idea behind the Gitano was to make a folding knife that is based on old south European folding knives in a new style. What I like about these knives is its elegant lines and often large blades in relation to the handles"

 

LionSteel loved Gudy’s idea and decided to start this new collaboration with him and Tools For Gents that helped us to develop the final versions. The Lion Steel Gitano Olive Wood is an extremely practical folding knife that joins the “Tradition by LionSteel” collection.

 

It has a Niolox stainless steel satin blade and, in this version, 6AI4V titanium bolsters and liners and olive wood scales. For its light weight and average dimensions, Gitano is the new elegant slipjoint knife to keep with you in your everyday working life.

    Superb slipjoint knife!

    This is not my first Lion Steel knife and it won't be my last. Their fit and finish is outstanding. This Gitano with olive wood handles is a thing of beauty, a real classy gentlemmans folder. It came hair popping sharp OTB and the slipjoint mechanism is ultra strong and it feels great in the hand. The shape is very reminscent of the old Navaja style knives, albeit far smaller. Can't recommend it highly enough. Ordered Monday PM and delivered Tuesday AM using Heinnie's famous phsychic service. Great experience all round.

    This is brilliant, so close to being perfect. I've been a fan of Southern European- style folding knives for a long time, but the 'rustic' build quality always disappoints a little. Not so with the Gitano- the fit & finish is superb, with really nice, high end materials. I guess it would be slightly improved if the scales had the same cross-sectional swell at the thinner part of the handles that you find on Lagiole knives, but I really am nit picking...! For the price, it's a staggering little knife. I think Heinnie need to get LionSteel to make a UK version that's slightly smaller, and then maybe they could also do a bigger one, with a back lock and chunkier blade stock... Everyone needs one of these..!
