Great backing for PSA lapping film, sandpaper, etc.

More of a polishing tape blank than a stone blank, which is exactly what I am using this for. I have given this four stars, only because there are better finished equivalents available, such as the hard anodised Edge-Pro polishing blank - but those cost £16 each! That said, while finish isn't perfect, this blank is solid and fully functional - if I could give it 4.5 stars, I would. Most importantly, the actual working surface of the blank is finely ground and polished - the small imperfections on the other surfaces will have absolutely no negative effect on function. Having purchased nine of these blanks for different grits, seven of them had virtually identical thickness - the variance of the other two was tiny. So, all in all, not perfect, but very good, and at a fair price. ps - service from Heinnie quick and efficient..... as always!

First things first, this could easily be a five star product. The only reason for giving four stars is that there are better finished polishing tape blanks - the Edge-Pro hard anodised blank for instance, but those are £16 each! That said, the machining on the sides of the blank is pretty good, the angled ends are just a little rough, and the bottom of the plate has some small nicks and scratches. HOWEVER, most importantly, the top surface is lapped and polished, ready for whatever abrasive you choose to attach. This smooth surface is protected by a layer of paper tape that peels off without leaving any residue - still a good idea to give the surface a clean with propanol or similar before attaching your abrasive. The thickness of the blanks is more in line with a polishing tape blank than a stone blank, which is exactly how I intend to use these. Importantly, the thickness of the blanks is almost identical (I purchased nine), so there is little need to worry about angle adjustment when switching grits during sharpening. Not quite perfect - but close! :0)
