Air ranger

This is a bit weird, but I bought this knife because of its name, I have an Air ranger air rifle, and wanted a matching knife to compliment it! Not disappointed, just one gripe, this knife has a really strong pocket clip, "like super strong" other wise good quality, fit and Finnish. Bargain at thirty quid!!

Quality not what it used to be

As ever, Heinnie Haynes superb. Cannot fault them. Now, I’ve owned several Gerber’’s over the years, from a Gator to a Mkii Guardian, a BMF, and I still have an original Mkii from 1995 which I treasure. I also owned a first generation of the AR, and unfortunately, the QC appears to have suffered over the years. In the one I received recently, the tip is not pointed, there is a nick on the cutting edge about 10mm from the tip, and the blade coating feels very rough, as if the metal had not been correctly prepared prior to applying the coating. For the price, Heinnie has much better offerings in stock, such Rough Rider, Marbles or Real Steel to name but a few. IMO Gerber is slipping and needs to raise their game and are trading on the brand history and values, and unfortunately, this current iteration of the AR does not reflect them. This shouldn’t be more than £20. It’s useable but this will be relegated to sitting in the kitchen drawer and used for cutting up the cardboard for recycling, it’s about all it’s good for.

Decent for the money

Fairly well built, basically impossible to open one handed though but i'm sure that will improve over time. Seems at the back of the blade the metal has been sheared off as the bare uncoated metal is exposed, this has no effect on the knife itself but would be nice to see some better QC from Gerber. Sharp out of the box, feels nice in the hand and looks gorgeous. My first folder so i'm pleased with it.
