The Fox FKMD Recon is a sturdy fixed blade knife with a twist. The Persian Style blade is upswept in design with a curved, plain main edge and a strongly serrated back edge to the blade. The satin-grey bead-blasted N690Co steel feels heavy in the hand, and the quality of this tool is evident from the laser engraving of the makers mark and designer’s monogram, through to the heavy cut of the serrations.
The knife is very slightly handle-heavy, pivoting around the finger-indent. The thick blade steel continues through the handle, tapering to an almost-delicate pommel. The green canvas micarta scales feel full of grip out of the box, and will increase in grip when moist. The handle is pierced by three stainless-steel lined tubes, allowing the user to apply a lanyard to suit their preferred grip. The top of the handle is strongly knurled, allowing for strong thumb pressure on the plain edge.The knurling continues across the micarta, giving a tactile indication of the position of the blade. A reverse grip is possible, making use of the very satisfying knurling on the plain-edge side of the blade. This gives a very good rope-cutting grip, making full use of the serrations.
The knife is supplied with a simple kydex sheath, without belt clip. The sheath has several pierced rivets, so that the user can position the sheath on their equipment to their own preference.
