    More Than Just a. Carver

Posted by Al on 17th Sep 2024

Delivered next day by Heinnie never fails as usual Very sharp straight out of the blister pack (a cardboard box would be better )and shifts wood really welI. Stays sharp for long time .I find it both versatile and comfortable . Mine is well finished. Does not lock up but the blades are firmly in place and no wobbles when opened. UK legal which is convenient. I have the Carving Jack which is a locker and has to stay at home ! The Whittlin Jack is expensive but worth it . Needs a sheath as it is carbon steel and requires a light oiling to keep rust away and oil away from clothing if the intention is to pocket it.

Very pleased with this; use it all the time for smaller whittling and carving jobs.

    Almost a great knife.

Posted by Cloggy on 4th Nov 2020

This is an good knife for what it does but a couple of things could be improved. The good things are that it is razor sharp and quite well designed. It will probably lat a lifetime and is made from quality materials Two problems are obvious; firstly the manufacturing quality is average at best with poorly fitted and roughly finished bolsters. Secondly the blades are very difficult to deploy- if you want to keep your nails I would suggest investing in a Rough Rider knife nick tool.

    Nice Blades Poor Finish

Posted by Steve Woodsmoke on 18th Mar 2017

I wanted a really good whittling knife something that would be in my pocket for many years to come as an upgrade to a trusted swiss army knife. I've had this knife a couple of months now and used it to carve a lot of little projects. In terms of blades this is an excellent knife both in terms of size and sharpness. It's easy to sharpen and maintains an edge well. The handle shape and size is again nice for hours of use, the spring that holds the blade open is strong enough that it doesn't fold up on itself easily. However the quality control out the factory is questionable, I had to send my first one back the finish of the wood insert leaves a lot to be desired with gaps and rough edges, there were marks all over the blades. The second one was picked out as the best of the bunch but still wasn't perfect. I kept it solely on the basis of it being a very sharp every day carry knife for whittling thinking I could put a new insert in, sadly it is most certainly not an every day carry as the blade soon marks in the pocket even when oiled, like in 24 hours. Not wanting to spoil the knife further I've returned to carrying my Victorinox which to some extent defeated the object. Disappointments aside and to give you an example of how sharp this knife is even with a well sharpened razor sharp victorinox swiss army knife you know how hard it is to push through a knot, with this knife you notice its easier and it still cuts paper after 20 minutes. This makes a big difference over hours of use. However I wouldn't say it was that much better than a really sharp fixed blade £25 mora carving knife. In balance I would not recommend this knife either as an every day whittler or a dedicated tool, There are cheaper fixed blade carving knifes even in the flexcut range, the more expensive folding big brothers of this is perhaps worth the extra in my view simply for the number of tools but I'd still want to look over it first. I am now back again looking for an every day carry whittler .

    Great for carving

Posted by Frank C on 27th Jan 2017

Great for whittling, good steel, great edge and easy to maintain (as you would expect from Flexcut). I'd be loathe to use it for everyday chores though- definitely a specific tool for a specific job. If you're into carving though it's great.
