The Extrema Ratio Rao is not so much a knife as a feat of engineering. With the customary robust design and precision manufacture the Rao reaches heights of ingenuity never seen before in the arena of knife design.

Purposefully crafted for the Folgore 185 RAO (Regiment Acquisition Objects) unit of the Italian Army it is required to perform in environments and over a period of time that most folding knives would not cope with.

The blade is made from N690 stainless steel with a testudo finish, tempered to 58/60 HRC. It is ingeniously double locked open or closed using a threaded hinge attached to the handle with an elastic lace and a slightly more conventional spring loaded, slide bar lock, making it one of the safest knives in the open position in the world.

The grip of the handle is specially configured, anticorodal material whilst the extremely tough nylon sheath with leather interior, is designed to take the knife in the open or closed position. A diamond sharpener is also provided in the front pocket of the sheath which is compatable with MOLLE systems. Sheath colour may vary.

    Extrema Ratio Rao folder

    Posted by questing_tentacle on 18th Aug 2024

This has to be the most bizarre knife I've bought. Aside from it's quirks, it's a great, HD folder with a comfortable handle (not chopped with it though). Quirks are the funny looking tanto style blade, sheath, locking pin and it's sheer size. The edge is very sharp but quite a steep angle. I hated the bungee cord for the pin. It just twisted up and loosened itself. Like the previous reviewer, I agree the retention for the pin should be a tapped, threaded option in the lanyard hole. Don't try what I did though and try to tap it. The steel is hardened and it doesn't work. Overall, I love the design and will get more ER knives.

    Extrema Ratio Rao

Posted by Donald HEARD on 10th Jan 2024

A very well made & Strong folding knife it has a pin that fits in to the handle that makes the knife a fixed blade, The pin is on a length of bungee type paracord why didn't Extrema make the lanyard hole screwable so you could screw the pin in to the lanyard hole is my only moan otherwise I'm very happy with the knife in general and thank you to Heinnie for the fast delivery as always.
