Made to order for the renowned 9th Parachute Assault Regiment “Col Moschin” of the Italian special forces, which officially adopted it in 2002, this is a quintessential field knife. It represents a contemporary reworking of knives issued to the Arditi – the historical force in whose footsteps the 9th walks – which sported asymmetrical blades and straight but direction-sensitive hilts. Designed to be light and handy, balanced decidedly toward the hilt.

The blade is made with N690 cobalt stainless steel, a high performance steel with excellent cutting and mechanical characteristics. It is hollow ground and hand sharpened with a Rockwell hardness of 58. The Forprene handle is fixed on the tang with an hexagonal stainless steel screw, this allows an efficient cleaning and lubing operation to give the knife an unlimited duty life. The high grip polymer and the handle shape allows the prompt change from sabre to reverse grip. Issued with a Nylon Thigh sheath with Molle attachments.

    OUTSTANDING

Posted by SteelHeadSteve on 24th Jul 2015

You know, when you see a string of five star reviews at HH, you know you are on to a good thing. When it comes to Extrema Ratio, I do not have enough good things to say about them. Their products are first class. Now to be fair, I cannot say that the Col. Moschin is the best model. Because, they are all very good quality. I can say however, that the Col Moschin is IMO the most agile full size fixed blade of the range. It is also very well balanced, like some of the other models. Now I do have a preference for the double edged version. But I also wanted the single edge model, because sometimes I like to "assist" with my spare hand. Either way, single bevel or double bevel, the Extrema Ratio Col. Moschin is a very good choice for the discerning operator.

Update after a year of owning this one

    Posted by A on 11th Jun 2013

Everyone else has said how good it is and if that won't tempt you. Well, a year of ownership and sharpened a couple of times. The edge retention is insane, that means the heat treat is exact on the mark to give you strength and durability. Hours of rope cutting training with marines, survival weekends, active theatre testing and more than the warranty would probably allow and yes it's got a few scratches and some signs of use, but it still soldiers on performing when it's needed. Used a a basha peg for two nights as no trees around and damaged kit? No problem! Need to prep a freshly killed deer? No problem! Need to trim wood for trapping or shelters? No problem. Need to remove clothing for a medical emergency? Well there was a lot of care doing it I confess but it did it and sliced through straps and clothes. The final member of the patrol is this knife.

    First Class

Stunning. Best knife I own without a doubt. Realistically next step up would be a Rockstead. Otherwise nothing else I've come across or own is in it's class.

    There can be only one!

The sheath shown is not the one that comes with the knife, not a problem for me, I just got a Spec Ops. The knife is a refined traditional Japanese tanto. Penetration is exquisite and combined with the serrations it takes care of business. Cut rope, cut meat, or sharpen a stake for trapping. The balance and grip is the best I have ever seen. There is no need for any other knife in a collection when you get to grips with this one. Strong, light, fast and insanely sharp. There is no compromise.
