CRKT Woods Kangee T-Hawk

The head does not remain securely where it should which, in my opinion, makes splitting logs a little unsafe. When throwing, and even though I threw at an ash tree that has died with nothing but earth and ivy beneath it, I noticed that right away the shaft was getting marked up by the head teetering down the shaft and on the third day throwing, somehow a 4cm splinter of wood was torn out of the shaft and quite a deep split left in the wood. If I pull the piece of wood sticking out, I'll make the split longer. I don't know how that happened landing where it did and I was very disappointed. I take care of my things; taking into account the price I paid for this ... I'm disappointed.

I bought this t-hawk mainly for processing firewood at home, which it does easily. The steel in the head feels nice and hard and should hold a good edge. The handle is a good fit but not perfect, you notice a bit of movement between the head and handle shaft when splitting (or getting the head stuck in particularly stubborn firewood) hence four stars. Overall I am very pleased with my purchase.

Ok... I've owned this hawk for a year now. It's a very decent hawk but I have two issues with it. One is the weight of the head. It's seriously top heavy and not really a single handed hawk, whilst this makes it a formidable splitting hatchet, I prefer to use my hand forged swedish hunting axe for cutting. I've replaced the crkt hafr with a cold steel hickory shaft from their Norse bearded axe. This is twice the length of the stock one and suddenly he crkt hawk comes into it's own. The extra length turns it into a formidable feller... However, in a Zombie Apocalypse I would still prefer the Norse Axe. Contrary to most fantasy telly you don't want a heavy axe in a combat scenario. The CS norse axe is the perfect weight for either single handed use or two handed use and you can use it for hours without tiring. In fact due to the light weight and the razor sharp head, it's my preferred garden and woodland axe. It's only £30 and yes, whilst the head shaft fit is rubbish and needs work l, the blade blunt from the box and, covered in a polymer that needs to be removed to see the beauty of the steel, (like the crkt one) once.sorted.it is my go to axe. So what's the hawk for? Well I use it as a camp axe when I don't want my hand forged one used as a peg hammer by idiot campers.and when there is firewood to gather and strip. It's an excellent demolition tool for breaking pallets and its spike end makes.short work.of root bolls of you re gathering hawthorn.for walking stocks.etc. As an axe.... well imho it's too heavy for anything really useful like skinning or pruning and the stock shaft is too.short for serious felling. I also dislike carrying it on a rucksack as not only does it upset sheeple much more so than the Norse axe (which is Actually designed for killing people) and much more so, only, than the 4ft long 15th C pole axe I own which had absolutely no use whatsoever than killing people.. I've carried all three in public (in context.) and only ever got hassle for the hawk... and the pole axe has two long spikes and a hammer as well as the axe!. But I don't like carrying it on the rucksack because it's too heavy. The hand forged swedish axe.is my go to tracking axe and in town it lives inside the rucksack. Its light, razor sharp and its moulded hickory shaft allows it to be used for the tasks a heavier knife is normally used for. The only downside, like I say, is that the ignorant use it like a cheap hatchet. I wish I'd bought the chogun hawk instead, the hammer end is much more useful than the spike especially with the weight of the hawk and it also makes more sense with the shorter shaft (and the ignorant can bang in tent pegs with it... although you have to warn them not to split their foreheads with the axe blade!

I just got my crkt woods kangee and I am very pleased with it. As soon as it came I used it to cut down a tree in my garden which it did with no problems . I would also live to add that HH delivery was just perfect, it came in the morning the next day. I have ordered three thing from HH over the past few weeks and altogether they have been great,only once did I have a problem but HH customer service was just great I would highly recommend them.

I bought this as a replacement for my old axe that, quite frankly, had come to the end of its days (it wasn't a particularly good quality tool to start with). I was looking for something a little different, not too heavy and that allowed some flexibility where bush crafting was concerned. Pros: good weight, comfortable haft, nicely shaped cutting edge and the spike at the rear breaks through hard, stubborn knots easily and quickly. The axe keeps its edge nicely and resharpens easily. It splits logs nicely (a lot better than I expected, given the shape of the head) and goes through branches quickly, both single -handed and double -handed. Cons: none to really complain about, although the edge was blurred over slightly. A short session with a stone sorted that out though. All in all a great axe for someone who wants something a little different.

This a very nice tomahawk for the price. Came sharp and with a good shaft to axe head fit unlike the Coldsteel ones! Throws really well and chops more like a medium camp axe. Highly recommended. HH delivery super fast as usual. Must have the most reliable and envied reputations on the net.
