Description

The Cold Steel Voyager series is designed to be the true “everyman” knife. Lightweight, comfortable, and super sharp, they are rugged, dependable and perfect for hunting and camping as well as general utility and daily cutting chores. Voyagers excel in many survival and rescue applications, and they have proven to be very popular with Police and Military personnel, who appreciate the combination of the cutting performance and safety that they offer.

Each knife in the extensive Voyager series is precision engineered and held to the most exacting standards. The Voyager series features Japanese AUS10A Alloy Blades, and Cold Steel's Tri-Ad locking mechanism - which is quite possibly the most secure, safe and shock resistant lock on the market today! The Voyager’s ergonomic Griv-Ex handles (reinforced with heat treated 6061 aluminum liners) provide both great comfort and a secure grip even under extended use in tough conditions.

This is the Cold Steel XL Voyager Tanto - the extra large version with a plain edged, tanto shaped blade.

    Cold Steel Voyager Tanto XL

Posted by Benbo on 6th Sep 2025

My previous review says it all. As I suggested I might, I have now bought a second one because ongoing daily, heavy use of the original one has confirmed that the cheap price (£95) is not synonymous with poor quality. The AUS10A is holding up fine with a 30deg microbevel (I've gone with 40deg for the tanto tip section). The new arrival has same good F&F as the first: well-centered blade, good grinds, sharp, solid lock-up and lock release is a one (strong) finger affair. Good tool.

Cold Steel Voyager XL Tanto plain edge

What a lot of knife for £95! I'm not a Cold Steel fan-boy by any stretch but this is an excellent knife for the money. It fills the gap between my Spyderco Resilience and the larger Rajah and Espada XL G10. This folder has become my EDC for keeping the trails and styles around my (very rural) location clear of brambles and nettles. The handle shape is so functional and the hollow-ground blade snicks through surprisingly thick substrate with ease. Sharp out of the box and even grinds. Well centered. Lock seems secure and on this specimen, easy enough to release. I've smoothed the textured surface under the clip (popular mod to avoid trouser chewing) and fitted a Snaggletooth for wave opening with one-hand. Can be flicked open easily without it though. Be careful closing it one-handed; the weighty blade can easily get up enough momentum to catch carelessly aced fingers... The Aus10a steel may not be a high carbide super steel but it's ideal for this blade: good edge stability and easy to resharpen. I'm so impressed I may get a second in case it gets discontinued or price goes up.
