Cold Steel is famous for raising the bar in the knife industry and their Recon 1® tactical folders are setting a standard that's hard to beat. Why? Because they are as tough as nails and will cut like a chain saw! Every facet of their construction has been over engineered to make them as strong, durable and effective as humanly possible. The blades are made out of S35VN w/ DLC Coating and the handles feature G-10 laminate scales artfully contoured and scalloped for a terrific non slip grip. Plus, they are held together by the latest in high strength mechanical fasteners and further anchored by a 6061 heat-treated spacer. To compliment their super tough blades and handles they are equipped with Cold Steels revolutionary Tri Ad lock®, which practically precludes lock failure.

Cold Steels testing has shown this coating offers three major advantages for tactical blades. First, it helps the blade to resist rust. Second, it eliminates glare and light reflections, which may give its user away. And third, it's superior lubricant, which causes the blade to slip through even tough material with markedly less friction. This means you can cut deeper and far longer than with a non-Teflon® coated blade. To make the Recon 1® as easy to open and carry as possible, Cold Steel have equipped each knife with a thumb disc and small extra strong pocket clip. This clip is completely ambidextrous. What's more its small size doesn't abrade or irritate the palm under protracted use.

    Gorgeous knife.

Posted by Dominic on 29th Aug 2020

Everything about this knife screams 'sex appeal' and quality. The G10 scales offer a great purchase on the knife and the ergonomics futher compliment that. The Western Tanto blade shape is beautiful, both to look at and to use, and I can't stop admiring the elegant lines, which are futher complimented by the DLC coating. The tolerances are excellent and the blade comes razor sharp out of the box, overall I'm very happy with this knife.

The fact that every review here gives the knife a perfect score, speaks volumes.

You won't regret buying this little beauty!

Great, strong knife. Clip is easy to modify and it's necessary to save your trousers

    Excellent.

I own a fallkniven NL5 Idun Damascus, the Recon 1 is my preferred choice for hunting ALL day long. It retains an edge like no other. Cuts through bone. Razor sharp , Robustly built and safe to handle. Awesome value for money. Just ordered another for a back up. I would hate to be without it.
Heinnie service is second to none. Great combo.

    Recon 1 Tanto

Posted by SteelHeadSteve on 23rd Jun 2015

Out of the 17 reviews below, 15 are 5 star. That's not bad at all, is it. There are plenty of reviews on Youtube as well. I don't think anyone, anywhere, has a bad thing to say about Cold Steel's Recon 1. It is a great working folder. Just to give you an idea of the size, it is 5.25" closed. The super-grippy handle is quite slim. Also, it is quite light, with a weight of 149g. Now a lot of folks moan about the cryogenic AUS 8 steel, it is not as bad as some make out. A lot of users like AUS 8, including me. It takes a good edge, and is easy to sharpen. I came across a steel the other day, I can't remember the name at the moment, and it had a Rockwell of 64 ! I should not like to have to sharpen that !

    Monstrous knife

Posted by Paul on 18th Oct 2014

The first thing to comment about here is the handle. It's big, very grippy and contoured to suit normal grip, reverse and underhand grips. The deep choil means your hand will never slip onto the blade.

The action is rock solid, and the back lock very secure. Out of the box, it was so secure I couldn't manage to get the knife closed again! It took some oil and a bit of working to get it to the point where I could open it one handed and close it without too much effort.

The knife is a nice weight and the blade is sturdy. The point is needle sharp, the front of the blade like a razor and the serrations very very sharp. This is a knife that can stab, cut, slice and saw through just about anything.

If you want a multi-function knife that's built to last, this is the one. Twice as expensive as the Boker Plus Kalashnikov 10 Spear Point (for example) but well worth it.

    Overall good knife

Posted by FerretMan on 3rd Oct 2014

I bought this knife from HH over a year ago and it's seen some light/moderate use. Comes razr sharp out of the box and keeps its edge well, also the strongest locking system on any folder ive used, plus if it gets loose you can just tighten the screw at the front of the handle and its back to how it came. Also like how you can switch the pocket clip over and it comes with a spare. My only complaint is the black coating easily scratches off the blade, like really easy you can do it with your fingernail. Also heard some bad things about cold steel's serrations, but i just got the plain edge model. As always the best service of any online shop ive ever bought from, and free delivery came in 2 days thanks HH

This thing cut itself outa the damn box...

Posted by Chris... on 25th Apr 2014

Cold steel, as usual, kickass build and feel ok, but Lynn my dear chap, use a more expensive steel... We don't mind paying for it ok... Your s**t rocks right outa the box, but with hardened use... Mmnnn...

A tanto only concerned with getting the job done

Posted by Simon on 18th Jan 2014

I've just written a review for the Espada and how 'bling' it is; well, this is the flip side to that tough coin. There is absolutely no emphasis on aesthetics with this bad boy, it's a workhorse through and through. No mirror polished finish here, what we have is a black teflon coating which comes off easily and gives your Japanese AUS8 blade a no nonsense/all business look. There's no delicate pointy tip either - I've seen a Recon1 Tanto [not mine] go through a car bonnet and retain its point, this along with the TRI-AD lock, the thick unlined high traction G10 scales with deep choil, great ergonomics and deep carry ambidextrous pocket clip all add up to one hell of a tactical folding knife.
