From its blade to its handsome rosewood handle, every inch of this Frontier Bowie screams perfection!

The Cold Steel Frontier 1917 Bowie features a wide, keen hand-sharpened blade with a generous clip and huge fuller. Made from 1055 Carbon Steel, it is heat treated to a hard spring temper and beautifully blued to a lustrous finish. The Frontier Bowie's handle is a perfect accompaniment with its big "S" shaped guard offers excellent hand protection while the slim, flat profile stops it from twisting in your hand and keeps your edge alignment true. Its modified pistol grip also keeps the knife locked safely in your hand.

To further compliment this exceptional knife, Cold Steel have created a high quality leather sheath with a blued steel throat and chape. Its swiveling leather belt frog is wide enough to accommodate even a thick military belt and fully detachable to allow you to slide the knife into your belt for a more traditional carry. This versatile knife is suitable for historical re-enactment groups from the 1830’s onwards, Cowboy Action Shooters, civil war re-enactors.

    Pricey

I bought this after reading many reviews and seeing posts on the web , Sadly H.H is using the royal snail so unless you pay extra you can wait days for delivery, I’ve only given 4 stars because after I threw out all the packaging I came across this knife on another site for £23 cheaper with free postage

    1917 frontier Bowie

Posted by Burt on 3rd Jun 2021

As a show piece this blade is a real peach. As a period correct piece it’s a little off target but still pretty close. As a user it’s an unbalanced beast with the worst edge profile I’ve ever seen (took a long while to reshape into the convex edge it deserves). The blueing is very weak sadly: not at all like the carcinogenic treatments of old. A few minutes batoning seasoned hardwood started to wear the blue quite clearly. I still love it for what it is. Presently searching for a piece of antler large enough to shape into a new scale.. Recently used to split a 25 kg lamb carcass to the spine....butterflied and hung on a cross for a 7 hour cook over fire. Then used to carve the flesh for the plate.. Now all I need to do is skin a rattle snake and scalp a *watermelon*...

    Cold Steel Frontier Bowie 1917

Very happy with this. It is more than a display knife. It actually has a full tang, is nice to hold and is reasonably priced although we pay more for everything in this country; about a third more than the U.S.A.

    Great knife

Posted by Jim on 1st Dec 2019

A beautifully crafted and well put together blade. Not only does it look great, but is a good all round heavy duty camp knife. Incredibly pleased with this tool for the price. And as always, fantastic delivery on the part of Heinie (came the next day from ordering)

    Impressive

    Posted by T.E. on 21st Feb 2019

I looked for a long time and finally decided to take the plunge, I read mixed reviews online and already have plenty of big bowies but I'm happy to say my example sits firmly in the positive camp, It's a big knife by any standards but not overly heavy or badly balanced, the blue is uniform and deep even under the handle, all grinds are even, the point is needle like, the blade gives a nice ring when flicked near the edge, (always makes me smile when a blade does that), you can tell it's hand made but obviously by people who know their stuff. PS, be prepared to spend half an hour degreasing it, it comes smothered in sticky preservative grease.

    A real bowie

Posted by Steve on 2nd May 2018

After waiting a long time for the frontier bowie to come back in stock , i was pleased to get my email frm HH confirming availability . I quickly hit the purchase button and settled in to await its arrival . As usual for HH a large box arrived the next day . Thanks again HH for excellent service . On opening i was very pleased to find after a good wipe down of the blade , a perfect example . The finish on both handle and blade is superb . Absolutely no imperfections on this knife . Very impressive on a hand forged blade . The sheath is very nicely made . Overall an awesome bowie and definately a knife that met my expectations .

    My resurrection knife

Posted by Mark b on 5th Aug 2017

Two years ago I was sat in hospital trying to recover from a huge heart attack and coma. I bought this using my iPad and made the wife leave it unopened. This was my goal - to make it home so I could play with this knife. When I got home this was waiting for me and I've loved it ever since. A ridiculously big package at a very fair price. My hands aren't huge but this monster fits perfectly and feels "right".

    Very deserving of 5 stars!

Posted by Tom on 15th Mar 2017

Fantastic craftsmanship, well built, and stunningly beautiful as well. This thing has a really huge intimidating blade that could give Crocodile Dundee a run for his money. All of the steel is very nicely blued and comes with a healthy coating of grease to make sure it arrives in perfect condition. I was a little worried that square handle would be uncomfortable but it's actually not bad at all. It's a far cry from the cheapo Chinese stuff. Definitely worth buying.
