Great knife, maybe too big for the pocket

Posted by Taylor John on 14th Aug 2024

I ordered the full size version first, it arrived quickly, beautifully packaged, very sharp OOTB, but it was very large in my hand, so much so that I had difficulty operating the rather stiff axis lock with one hand. I contacted Heinnie for a return so that I could order the mini version for comparison, and I got a very prompt and helpful email from Marie in return. I did order the mini version and it arrived as quickly as the first. I found it the perfect size for pocket carry, and it was easier to open or close one handed, using either the thumb stud or unlock and flip. The Bess sharpness is one of the lowest I have seen, and the Magnacut steel should keep an edge for a long time. I used a 15000 grit whetstone and strop to remove the grind marks and now it is beyond razor sharp.

    Star Knife

At last, a sensibly priced Magnacut from Benchmade which is of practical blade length. I particularly like the light weight which hides itself well in the pocket so making for a good workhorse that isn't taxing or faddish to take with you. Substantial and still very slicey and doesn't come across as an aggresive piece - it's a freindly tough tool vibe. Silky action, robust, practical grip in the wet and nice balance at the axis lock. Given how light it is I'm glad I didn't go for the mini on this occasion. Great gift box presentation if you're giving one away.
