Spyderco’s immensely popular SLIPIT models combine the convenience of clip carry and one-hand opening with the social and legal friendliness of a non-locking blade. The Spyderco Metropolitan is the next member of this proud family. Sized to fit perfectly between the trailblazing Spyderco UK Penknife and the compact Spyderco Urban, it proudly offers all the same performance qualities, including a fully accessible Trademark Round Hole for easy one-handed opening with either hand, a clip for convenient top-of-the-pocket carry, and a non-locking, notched-joint mechanism.
Its full-flat-ground leaf-shaped blade is crafted from Böhler-Uddeholm’s M398, an advanced particle metallurgy stainless steel capable of achieving extreme hardness and edge retention. The blade includes a textured index-finger choil as an extra margin of safety and is paired with a lightweight handle built with injection-molded fiberglass-reinforced-nylon (FRN) scales. To balance discreet carry and easy access, the textured scales are home to a deep-pocket wire clip that is easily configured for left or right-side tip-up carry.

Look guys, I own the Squeak, Urban, Metropolitan and the UKPK. This by far is the best out of them all. Perfect size, great steel and I have noticed that spyderco have ever so slightly rounded off the edges around the opening hole and spine of the blade. Which in my opinion gives it an extemeily sleek feel in my hand, rather than the sharp edgy feel the other UK legal spyderco have. It’s a great size as it sits in between the UKPK and the Urban. The action is absolutely lovely and again the rounded edges just makes it feel much more luxurious in the hands rather than the others. Big shout out to the Heinnie team as always, Thanks for the great service and fast delivery!
This feels like it was custom made for me. My favorite edc was the UKPK in Spy27 but this feels like an upgrade. I always thought the UKPK had a bit too much handle, but this is remedied by the Metropolitan. The blade is slightly thicker at the spine but it feels thinner behind the edge and cuts better. I wanted a slip joint version of my Chaparral…. And this is it! The action is buttery smooth and can be flicked open (unlike my UKPK). Hides perfect in the 5th pocket of my jeans. I took the clip off and noticed there was no loctite on any of the screws. This made things easy, but i did add a little blue (not Red) when I put it back together. I can’t comment on the M398 steel yet but it should keep an edge for a very long time.
I have owned most of the slipit range and this is now one of my favourites. I love the UKPK action but it's was a little big. The Urban was a good size but the two I have had, had bad actions. The Metropolitan is a great middle ground, it has a good action, nearly on par with the UKPK and a size that is perfect. Pros: sharp out the box, great size, good action. Cons: ......none yet
An excellent little EDC knife for slicing, not the toughest of steels, but it should rarely need sharpening. The Spidey Hole makes it a breeze to open one-handed. For the price you can't really go wrong.
I second I got the email about the Metropolitan - I ordered it! Before I clicked order, I did the basic checks - if it's UK safe, blade material, all sizes. Now that I've got it, I've compared it to my UKPK, and my pride and joy - the Urban! The Metropolitan fits nicely in between the UKPK and Urban, about 10mm bigger than the Urban, and 10mm smaller than the UKPK. I've always loved the UKPK, but it was always the Urban I'd reached for - the spine tension on the Urban always felt stronger than the UKPK. Which to note the Spine on the Metropolitan is a slipback spine! Brilliant! None of this hidden fork back like the UKPK - plus I've heard on forums that the UKPK spine isn't the most reliable - so keep it oiled!!! The Metropolitan is same price as the UKPK, for less material! - okay, it M398 steel which is 'better' than the standard UKPK steel - is that worth it to make it the same price as a UKPK? The length of the Metropolitan feels nice. It's smaller than the UKPK, I have almost XL hands, and the UKPK fits nicely, but it was always the Urban I'd reach for - for than spine alone! The Metropolitan has a mix of the best spine and decent length to fit my palm! In fact - it's the same length as my Victorinox Cyber, closed and blade extended! If I can say there is a downside for owning the Metropolitan - it's that the choil where you place your index finger - There's no grip(knurling)!!! - Seriously, Spyderco, the place where you need grip the most isn't knurled??? But Spyderco kept the grip on the place where you place your thumb - Baffling!!! I've tested the Metropolitan by having oily hands(which can happen in my business), my index finger could slip out of the choil easily. Whereas the Choil on the UKPK and Urban HAVE knurling(grip), I had oily fingers and my index finger wouldn't move. Personally, it's a great knife, solid spine, decent length, but let down by the lack of index grip.
