Description

The original Wharncliffe blade pattern was created by an English nobleman who believed that its perfectly straight cutting edge and acute point would significantly enhance the functionality of the pocketknives of the day.

Spyderco’s Lil’ Native Wharncliffe revitalizes that logic by empowering the compact, ultra-convenient Lil’ Native with a full-flat-ground Wharncliffe-style blade. The spine of the satin-finished CPM S30V stainless steel blade curves gracefully downward to meet the straight cutting edge at an exceptionally keen point.

Its edge and point tuck into an ergonomic handle featuring nested stainless steel liners, peel-ply-textured G-10 scales, a high-strength Compression Lock mechanism, and a deep-pocket wire clip that is reversible for left or right-side tip-up carry. “Get it straight” when it comes to pocket knife performance.

    Perfect Gralloch Knife

Posted by Peter Wilson on 8th Nov 2025

The design and size of this knife make it a perfect choice for deerstalkers who want a knife they can shroud the tip with their forefinger and do delicate cuts inside the abdomen cavity of deer. It also excels for the precision cuts to remove the bowel at the anus and oesophagus at the throat and opening the abdomen. The curved spine enables the forefinger to guide the blade like a scalpel. It is very effective. The knife benefits from being easily cleaned. It has an open design to the handle at the spine compared to slip joints and back lock knives so when open you can get a nylon brush into all recessed areas. I drop mine into a dental ultrasonic instrument cleaner and it comes out spotless. No problems at all on hygiene for food safety regulations. I removed the pocket clip on mine for better grip comfort and to avoid snagging on latex gloves. The S30V steel retains an edge for a very long time. Particularly in this application. I have had mine for a year now and have sharpened it once. It came shaving sharp from the box. It can comfortably be sharpened to score a 50g Bess Test result. The straight edge design is perfect for easy sharpening. Having a folding blade also enables avoiding catching coat linings when returning the knife to a pouch or pocket. Really useful in winter where fixed blades carried under coats on belts can require opening your coat to safely sheath the knife. This can be easily carried in a Bino harness or in a pocket. You can slide it closed into a latex glove for additional hygiene practice and only expose the knife when putting the gloves on. If you keep your gloves in a small freezer bag in your pocket it can go back in there once the job is done. Its small size is a real bonus. I would highly recommend this knife for this purpose.
