Opinel No10 Corkscrew Folding Knife 18

Perfect. The HH pictures don't show the new version, which I got from them. A square wire 'lanyard ring' at the back designed to be a crown cap bottle opener works very well. Corkscrew and very functional knife make it perfect for picnics. Knife sturdy enough to make tent pegs and cut poles for shelter if it rains. Wouldn't be a British picnic without rain.

This is definitely a worthwhile upgrade. For a picnic implement this is ideal. So easy to keep sharp. Stropping is the key. My No 7 Opinel (carbon, locking ring removed, blade length now 75mm for EDC) will easily open a tin of beans etc without breaking a sweat, so how much more so would this robust No 10 do so. The corkscrew as noted is stout but in a good way. Usual tidy Opinel construction and boringly reliable. After each use, just a light strop, it only takes seconds, and the edge will be ready for the next task. Stropping is the key. Used to fret over the best way to use progressively finer stones to obtain a keen edge. Nope. Stropping is the key. The corkscrew, closed, is also a useful index to orient the edge at the preferred angle of 20 degrees whilst shaving. Don’t laugh. It works quite well, thank you. Did I say that stropping is the key? Superb product. Delivery was quick as a bunny, and everything arrived in excellent condition. HH, top marks!

A lot of the American and British knife reviews I've read over the years have involved things like batoning timber, punching holes in car tyres, letting oneself out of vehicles via improvised exits, etc. - tasks I've never had to undertake in 42 years of knife ownership and I have an axe anyway. The French reviews always come down to la cuisine, whether at home or out and about. I've eaten three times a day, on average, for as long as I can remember, often away from home or gastro pub. There's the role, then - camping/picnic knife, continental rail companion, hotel room midnight munchie facilitator, etc. and, of course, be up to any whip fettling usually attendant on such jaunts, although that's what the Douk-Douk (reviewed) is for. My previous attempt was a Claude Dozorme (also reviewed) but that didn't cut it, as 't were. The Opinel does, and by a margin. That big blade is perfect for preparing food in the kitchen and devouring it when elsewhere, since the belly is a good shape for buttering bread, the thin profile goes through hard veg without splitting it and the lack of metal to metal friction keeps the blade clean. I gave the insides and front of the handle a good going over with olive oil to shed water so cleaning the knife is quick and easy. Although the edge wasn't brilliant it became so with little effort. Yes! An Opinel with a corkscrew! Also good for undoing knots in whip crackers & falls. Damn, no bottle opener - but wait - the corner of the closed blades lifts the caps off ale just fine. Closed it's a bit over 5 inches long and chunky but weighs only 78g and is the right size and shape for my hand. Except that the corkscrew would dig in a bit during prolonged or rough tasks. Looks like I'll have to get another of these in carbon steel cos I just love it.

Opinel no 10 is about the only model i until now have never owned! The model was never around in shops when I seemed to be looking out for yet another Opinel knife ? I have found these knives rather addictive over four decades , and I have yet to find any knife that slices like them ? They also are one of the easiest knives to sharpen ! Opinel no10 is finally in the hand and with a built in corkscrew to boot ! The blade is big and as sturdy as ever , fairly sharp and inox , ie inoxable or even stainless sanvic steel ? The corkscrew is well crafted into the handle and is very robust ,it's a lot bigger than a swiss army knife version but then so is the Opinel no10 ! To some up , the knife is just classic Opinel and I'm pleased to finally get no10 to ad to the rest of them ,although I think she will live in the kitchen in place of a no8 ? Service from HH was as always perfect ,even in this troubled time we have at present ! Five stars alround.....
