Sharpening Steel
Sharpening Steel
A sharpening steel, also known as a honing steel or butcher's steel, is a tool used to maintain the sharpness of a knife's edge by realigning the microscopic edge of the blade. It's not for actually removing metal and sharpening in the way that whetstone would, but rather for realigning a slightly dulled edge. It's typically a long, slender rod made of steel, ceramic, or diamond-coated steel, often with a handle and guard.
