    Straight lil ace!

Posted by Stevo on 11th Mar 2025

Convenient size, not too heavy, flat comfortable grip. Reversible pocket clip. Lanyard hole. Definitely needs two hands to open. Effort on mine is 4 out of 5. Not sure if a thumb stud would easily overcome the pressure from the firm back spring. The modified Sheepfoot blade is practical for many daily applications, and makes the most of allowable length for UK friendly EDC. No play in the open position. Blade is neatly centred and the action is smooth and positive, with nice walk and talk, and a significant half stop, as others have noted. One reviewer mentioned micro pitting on his Straightlace, affecting both the blade and the bolsters. Mine is free of any of those issues. The edge was crisp and clean out of the box, but it got a light strop anyway and it really performs well. Point of balance is about 60 percent of the way up from the bottom of the handle. Personally I could have done without the stripes. On the far side, the striped plastic accents are just very slightly proud; and more or less level on the near side. But choice is a good thing - the stripes do jazz up the otherwise muted appearance. They just don’t make the Straightlace go any faster. All corners and edges are smooth and quite unlikely to wear a hole in one’s pocket. This fairly thin and flattish design is similar to another Gerber design that in my opinion is a real sleeper and is similarly another great buy at the moment here on HH, the Mansfield. While the Mansfield is a modern take on the old historical sway back type of pocket knife, the Straightlace is the opposite of a sway back pattern; the lightly curved back of the frame naturally fits the hand. The overall flat form likely would even carry comfortably in a shirt pocket, the weight of this model notwithstanding. Both the Mansfield and the Straightlace are bargains in their own right. The Mansfield is just too long, by 4mm, for EDC, without slightly shortening its D2 blade, which would be a bit of a shame. The Straightlace is perfect for EDC, as is. I watched Gerber’s video for this Straightlace model before buying, and it seems that they have made a genuine effort to make an appealing modernisation of the traditional slip joint design. Which may very well interest those new to pocket knife use, or even budding collectors, to explore the rich heritage and legacy of other traditional patterns and manufacturers. So, that’s fine. Thank you, HH, for yet another pleasant experience in offering this model.

    Great EDC Knife

Nice sized knife for those little everyday tasks, holds a good edge. Nice slim profile that means it isn't obtrusive to wear.

    Uk carry knife.

As a pocket folding blade the straight lace has everything I need. A smooth folding action with good balance and a great feel in the hand. Ideal for every day use I.e. cutting string, boxes or even an apple. Not had it long enough to really comment on the blade’s resilience but so far I’ve no complaints. For a knife in the lower price range compared to others I’m extremely happy and would recommend 5* all the way.

Lovely little edc knife, blade can be sharpened nicely and keeps an edge well. Love the interchangeable pocket clip. Would recommend it

4 stars would be five if just had a thumb stud. Made very well and solid. Two hands to open. Slip jointed so uk legal for carry. Just not up town be sensible. Good fit and finish. Quality. Suprised how good it is esp. For its current price which is best i found online. Sent safe and recorded with id proof. Buy one you wont regret it...oh and its sharp out of box but strop it for best result.

    Gerber Straightlace (Green)

Posted by DL London on 24th May 2023

A good size (open and closed) and has weight if you have big hands. Went for the Green over the Blue. Extended nail groove is good but only on one side and opens easy for us righties. Price and Delivery time is a winner.

    Close - but no cigar

Posted by Simon Redman on 14th May 2023

This knife looks great, but is let down by the execution. Some misery guts on YouTube complained about micro pitting on the blade and bolster - and unfortunately he's right, though you can barely see it with the naked eye. With my rheumy old naked eye, anyway... But those inlaid stripes that are meant to give it the nostalgic look of a 'gentleman's' knife - well, they're rough as a badger's chuff, wobbly, and feel like they've been made from the lid of a vitamin bottle that's been run over by a Scammel on the Jakarta ring road. Having said that, the wharncliffe is fantastically useful, the action is good, and mine came ALMOST shaving sharp. At the HH price of £22.50 it's a nice 'little' knife and it's a pleasure to use - just don't go paying full price for it.
