I bought this after considering what tools I reach for every week or so: knife, scissors, pliers, screwdriver, wire cutter, pen, torch. This covers all but two of those - some Swiss Army knives will do all of them, but the pliers on this are more useful to me. It’s an ingenious device, and some points are not at all obvious - for instance a Swiss Army knife has an obvious exposed spring on the scissors, and my original model Leatherman has unsprung pliers that you have to pull apart manually. This has sprung scissors and pliers, but the springs are concealed and it’s not obvious how they work.
You can read the specs elsewhere, so I won’t go over everything. Some points: one flathead and one Phillips screwdriver on the tool. These are at the end of the tool, not the mid-point (good), but are only stable in line with the tool, while it would be nice if they also locked at 90°, or at least locked in the inline position. Perfectly serviceable though. The multitool comes with an adapter which fits over the Philips head to take standard 1/4” screwdriver bits, which is a big deal as you can swap out the ones that come with it for something that will fit your use, e.g. Posidrive (the other cross-head standard) or Torx.
The knife is not particularly sharp as standard: perfectly serviceable, but I will try to put a better edge on it. It is possible to open the knife one-handed, but not easy. I have not yet used the saw, but a good point is that it is tapered towards the back, which is done to stop it jamming in a cut. The knife is not locking (needed for UK carry law), but the saw blade does lock.
Blades on the scissors are about 48mm long, and will cut tissue paper with their tips - most can’t do this. Pliers are a bit shorter than my Leatherman, but not by as much as I had expected, and they work well. I haven’t used the wire cutter and wire stripper.
Fit and finish: as it comes from the factory, the joints are a little stiff, which is probably good. All the joints show evidence of a little light oil having been applied - not enough to get on your clothes, just enough to get the job done. Overall, this is nicely made. It is painted black, so it is reasonable to expect that some of the black finish will wear off over the years. If you don’t like the sound of this, don’t buy a black knife! Otherwise, think of it as patina.
Will it fit in the fifth pocket of your jeans? Definitely. It shares my pocket with an Olight Perun 2 torch, and there is some room left at the bottom.
Conclusion: recommended.
