Alan Folts is a knifemaker and metalworker in Greenville, N.C., who makes a remarkable range of custom objects, including titanium chopsticks. His Minimalist neck knife has proven to be very popular. Here is a very small and lightweight knife which gives surprising comfort and control, thanks to the unusual geometry of the full-tang 5cm (2.0") Wharncliffe blade, aided by three finger choils, hand-contoured green/black Micarta scales, and a braided fob.

The CRKT Minimalist comes with a custom-fitted Zytel sheath and neck paracord for inverted carry as a neck knife. Because the knife and sheath weigh only 45grams together, it is a personal carry you will barely notice.

Unlike many small neck knives, this handle is really functional for a wide variety of daily cutting tasks, while the Razor-Sharp straight edge is perfect for scraping, woodworking and precision carving.

    CRKT Minimalist Wharncliffe

It's a bit smaller than I thought it'd be for some reason but that doesn't detract from it's form or sharpness, both of which are excellent. I especially like the belt clip which gives another carrying option to the neck, nice touch which isn't often seen

    Crkt minimalist Wharncliffe

Firstly absolutely stunning service from HH as always! Very fast delivery and zero drama. On to the little knife itself, what can I say? 5 minutes or less on the strop and it puts any scalpel to shame. I bought this for light whittling duties and it really does excel, great fit in my large hands despite its diminutive stature, very secure. The sheath has great retention and the belt clip is OK for horizontal carry! All in I'm 100% happy and would gladly recommend this little fella to anyone in the market for a small fixed.

    CRKT Minimalist Wharncliffe

Just received today and so far am very impressed with this little fixed blade. Extremely sharp and works great as a neck knife or worn vertically on a belt. Will be looking into a way of configuring for horizontal carry as the supplied belt clip only allows vertical carry. Great little edc blade.

Blade is good Product is not fit for EDC use

Posted by Jack on 27th Jul 2020

I have now had two of these knives and on both occasions the knife has fallen out if the sheath when around my neck. The knife itself is of good quality and I like the handle. But you cannot call this and EDC neck knife when it is not fit to be worn around the neck everyday. It is not a cheap product for what it is but I dont expect to be loosing it when carrying it in the way it is intended to be carried. Overall very disappointed with this product.

    Great knife

Fantastic knife, sharp blade, handle looks odd in the photos but fits the hand nicely, good solid neck sheath. No issues with the price. Top service from Heinnie.

    Best knife I ever bought

Posted by ImaginaryWalrus on 26th Aug 2016

This thing is brilliant. Just brilliant. I work as a labourer/handyman in a furniture shop, which involves a lot of cutting tasks - tape, cardboard, cable ties, bubble wrap, cling film, you name it. Nothing too heavy duty, but there's plenty of it. I hated the chore of digging a knife out of my already stuffed pockets, and I didn't want to use a pocket clip or belt knife because of the fear of it scratching tables or other furniture on the shop floor as I walk past. A nice, thin, light neck knife was just what the doctor ordered, and the Minimalist was the perfect cure. Slim, c*le (so the customers don't think I'm there to m*r them), and super easy to deploy, use, and replace one-handed whilst carrying stuff; this knife does everything I could want. The closest thing to a negative I could give would be the steel, as although it's perfectly useable, you can definitely feel it getting blunt after a few weeks, but that's why I went with the Wharncliffe blade shape - a straight edge is so easy to sharpen, and a few minutes on a stone gets this thing back to the razor sharp edge it had when it came out the box. Another slight negative I would give would be the retention in the sheath. After about 7 months of being pulled out dozens of times a day, I must admit that the retention of the knife in the sheath has less of the 'click' it did when it came out of the box. It still hangs in there though, but maybe not as solidly as I'd like. That being said, I'm pretty sure there are ways to slightly remold the sheath with heat, which might be something I'll look into in the near future. Other than these small niggles, there's no real reason to not buy it - it's slim, sharp, light, ergonomic, and doesn't break the bank. Of course, the handle style is a very subjective preference, but I find it perfect for lighter tasks. For heavy cutting, I'd rather have a 4-finger grip, and something that fills the palm a bit more, but this thing is fine for me, and if you've read all the way down to here, you're probably the right person for it too. Signing off, I must thank Heinnie for their great service, and although it wasn't in stock for a few weeks after the purchase, they shipped it as soon as they got it, so no complaints there!

Excellent neck knife for small tasks

Posted by Mr C on 6th Oct 2014

I have all three of the Minimalist range. All I can say is I am very pleased with the fit finish and quality of theses knives and at an excellent price range too. They were sharp when they arrived, but a bit of a going over they are now like razors. Heinnie did an excellent job as usual in getting them to me in double quick time with no hassles at all. Thanks to you all there. :-)
