This Byrd folder has a Hawkbill-shaped blade. This distinctive curved cutting tool’s claw-like tip overwhelms material in its cutting path. As the hook pulls what is being cut against and in contact with the sharpened edge, the hook winds around material stopping it from sliding off the tip. The Hawkbill blade’s shape is rooted in the commercial fishing industry, its profile ideal for downward, sweeping cutting performed at arm’s length directed away from the body.

Full serrations across the blade’s length measurably increase its cutting capacity for separating webbing, cardboard and coarse or fibrous material. The hollow-ground blade features jimping at both spine and choil for additional tactile dexterity and control over the cutting edge. Its black fiberglass handle is Bi-Directionally Textured® for slip-resistance in any hand position with an ambidextrous tip/up, tip/down steel pocket clip. Nested inside the handle are full length skeletonized steel liners, increasing rigidity and strength without adding bulk or weight. Screw-together handle construction allows for adjustment and a lanyard hole located at the handle’s edge accommodates secondary retention through attachment of a lanyard or thong.

    Amazing

Amazing knife, pity it's not uk legal. I don't usually go for serrated but glad I have. Going in my fishing bag. Am sure it will come in very handy

    Really quite good indeed.

Posted by Franklin J. Windisides on 19th May 2015

A small, light knife, but surprisingly wide (not fat) when folded means it takes up more space than you'd think.

Requires a very positive opening (e.g. won't open on a snap of the wrist) but possibly this will loosen up after more use. Some play when opening, but clicks in place firmly, solid when full opened. The teardrop/meteor shaped thumbhole is an improvement, gives more space for your thumb

Sits wonderfully in the hand, cuts beautifully. Compact handle and blade, good leverage, blade sharp all the way along. The pocket clip is either a boon (if you use it, and it can offer a little more to hold onto, as the handle is slim) or a pain (if you don't use it, if you have small hands and the handle sits fine in your palm); it can at least be oriented on whichever side and end of the knife you prefer, which is very thoughtful.

Closing is a bit of a pain. Initial stiffness and the position of the lock means one-handed is a little tricky, you need to compromise your grip, and then push the back of the blade against something (being careful not to go too far and close it on your own fingers). If you have the luxury of both hands, it's no problem. If you're otherwise busy, it can be a fiddle.

Hex bolts used in the construction, which is a bit of a pain. All-round, an excellent budget Spyderco.

    perfect for gamekeepers

Ordered this little girl yesterday, on my doorstep today, great service. This little knife was just what I needed for clearing chaff from spring feeders, only serration blades can do this easily, it also slices through feeder bags like they were butter. Small, light, sharp and great price. Usually carry an Opinel or Mora around shoot, this knife will be on me constantly, it also does its intended job of cutting rope and twine with consummate ease. Most chuffed with this tool, should have got one years ago, hey ho live and learn.

    Handy and well made EDC

Posted by Ed on 19th Jun 2014

Very handy little blade not to mention well made and reasonably priced.

All the important things are there - good lock up, fit and finish, good centring... Also came extremely sharp and easily maintained on the Sharpmaker. Might buy another...

    Super Folder

Posted by Vince on 9th Jul 2013

This is a super little folder, extremely sharp and very practical. It sits well in the hand, is very light and functions very well.

I use it as a letter and package opener of which it is very suitable.

The Chinese 8Cr13MoV steel has excellent edge retention and is on par to AUS8 steel but has more carbon in it...hence is sharper.

Overall a good buy that I am pleased with. HH's usual light speed delivery keeps this company the best online retailer you can find. I get the majority of my blades from them. Enough said...so what you waiting for? Buy one now.

Great all round cutting knife. On my first day of getting the knife I cut everything from paper, plastic, cardboard, carpet, etc. Very sharp, easy opening, excellent knife, very happy.

The knife has a good edge and cuts well my only complaint would be again like the rescue medowlark the knife sits quite high in the handle but its something easy enough to get over all in all its a good knife no major complaints.
