I was looking for some thin and strong cord for emergency purposes that wouldn’t take too much room in my well equipped edc pouch. I saw the micro cord and as a great price, already used it when my boot lace snapped so glad it was available.
Bought to add whipping to my Mil-Tec assault pack zip pulls. Both black and green cords came well packaged, keeping black aside for essentials tin. Feels strong and secure
I have both Micro & Nano threads, for tent/rucksack repair and for use occasionally as cordage in their own right. I find them both excellent in terms of strength and in terms of practical usage. From my own use ,I find that bowline, fig 8, Scaffold and double fish knots do bight/grip with no movement whatsoever. For sure they are a little fiddly to tie, but that's the same for all threads of the same diameter as these... you just have to ensure you dress the knot correctly, personally i find these threads brilliant to use.
This is basically the world's best string. Strong, light, and versatile. Would make excellent whipping cord for keeping the end of thicker ropes tidy, or for adding grip to handles without also adding too much bulk.
Makes an excellent crab-line for fun at the harbour. Handle large specimens with respect and caution. To avoid being nipped, make sure you can't be reached. This is best achieved by grasping the carapace with thumb and forefinger in the region of the forward anterolateral teeth.
Initially I was a bit surprised by how much thinner this cord was than standard 550 cord and it looked very weak and flimsy. After a bit of testing I am impressed. I am not sure what the intended breaking strain is but in trying to break it with my hands I have managed to dent a space pen I had it wrapped it around to help my grip. Takes no space to carry and is more than enough for a lot of daily tasks. Only four stars because knots slip off a little easily.
Really thin and light but very strong. Atwood state '100lb test' so I presume it can withstand at least that. Using it to hold the sides of my basha down, up to the job so far. No problems with knots for me but nylon, which I presume this is, does need different knots to hold well. Good enough for most things I would have used 550 paracord for previously but so much lighter!
