The best Swiss Army knife ever?

Posted by SigSi on 13th Sep 2018

I own eight Swiss Army knives, and I've had and lost a few others over the years, and this is definitely my favourite. I'd carry it all the time if it weren't for the silly UK restrictions on locking blades, but for camping trips and the great outdoors, this is the business. The blade is longer and thicker than a standard SAK, making it highly usable for food preparation, cooking and eating, as well as more heavy-duty tasks than you'd usually expect a SAK to be able to tackle. And of course it locks as well, so you can use it without worrying about it closing on your fingers. The selection of other tools is just perfect for my needs - there isn't one I'd be without, and there isn't one I wish was there, except maybe a file like you get on Leatherman tools. A few little niggles - I wish the saw blade locked as well as the knife blade. The liner lock works on the knife blade and the bottle opener, but I'd much rather have a locking saw than a locking bottle opener! And the saw blade seems a bit unnecessarily tapered down and spindly to me. It would be good if it were a bit beefier. Also, a choice of colours would be good - this knife is only available in black as far as I know. Other than that, the Forester is just perfect.

    The 0ne bush tool

Posted by Mountain Pagan on 6th May 2016

Some uses of this amazing "pro" SAK... Survival Tool: Whittle wood with the strong 3.25 inch (2mm thick) locking blade. Chop branches with the saw. De-scale fish with the saw blade. Signal with the polished knife blade. Kitchen Tool: Open food cans, drinks bottles and take out corks . Tool kit: Cut, saw, pry, tighten screws and puncture holes. Hygiene: Remove trapped food from teeth. Extract splinters. Ok many SAK's can perform these functions but most of them do not have a knife like this one.. Solid blade that can cut and carve with ease thanks to the sturdy line lock and hefty 2mm thick blade. For stainless steel this is nice and sharp. It's no Mora carbon steel but gets the job done and will NOT corrode. That is a good thing for longevity and if ever used near salt water. For me this is the "pro" SAK and can hold up in the bush making fire sticks and tent pegs with ease. For so much functionality on top of the included blade these things are great value for money and will last you a very long time. A quality SAK with a perfect set of tools for extended trips...get one!

Never been disappointed. something to rely upon.

Had one of these knives for years, this was the first time I found Victorinox offered a locking blade, put this knife through hell and high water and I have never been disappointed. At this price you can have a knife you can rely upon and not break the bank.

    Just remembered I have one.

Purchased this knife 10 plus years ago, me and my son's have put this knife to the test and now it's looking old and scruffy, but it still kicks ass and delivers the goods. This knife has been a fantastic friend and not yet ready to retire. Not expensive, good quality, takes the workload, what more can you ask.

    Forrest First And Finest.

Posted by Stephen on 30th Jun 2014

This is my first SAK and it was a gift. An excellent bit of kit, just the right amount of tools and a locking blade, I'm very impressed with the look and feel. Sharp on arrival like all knives should be, every tool readily operable even for my fragile nails. This is joining my EDC and no doubt prove a very useful addition. All the tools are useful and usable. Very impressed.

    Forester

Posted by Derek W. on 20th Mar 2014

Not my first SAK as I've carried one almost daily for over 40 years in one form or another. Love 'em. The Forester fills the hand nicely. The blade locks up solidly, as does the screwdriver and the other tools on board are familiar to me with the exception of the saw which I have seen reviewed favourably elsewhere and look forward to trying for myself. From order to delivery in less than 24 hours. Thank you Heinnie - although I'm starting to suspect dark magic.

all u realy need no more no less !

Posted by Mav on 12th Apr 2011

Has all the functions a man needs when out and about! Bottle opener, a cork screw! Lol joking aside the only other tools I use on such items are the knife, large screw driver norm as a lever, can opener and now and again the saw tweezers and tooth pic this has them all and few if any unused ones ! It's great! Wee point tho, blade lock a tad hard to use when wet, cold or gloved! 5-
