Designed by custom knifemaker Serge Panchenko, the Roc combines an unusual cleaver-style blade with a gracefully curved handle and a sturdy LinerLock mechanism to create a uniquely functional cutting tool that challenges convention. Precision ground from VG-10 stainless steel, the Roc’s blunt-tipped, PlainEdge blade features a low-profile matte grey finish and a saber grind that balances high-performance edge geometry with the strength and heft of a full-thickness spine. A long section of jimping on the blade’s spine provides a solid purchase for the user’s thumb, and an easily accessible Trademark Round Hole ensures swift, positive one-handed opening with either hand.

The Roc’s handle combines full skeletonized stainless steel liners with textured G-10 scales and an open-backed construction that reduces weight and simplifies cleaning and maintenance. Its thick liners also form the foundation of the knife’s sturdy LinerLock mechanism, which includes a Bob Terzuola-inspired concave lock ramp on the blade’s tang. To ensure convenient carry and immediate access, the Roc features a reversible deep-pocket wire clip attached to the butt end of the handle to offer left or right-side tip-up carry.

Well packaged knife light in weight very solid build, however extremely blunt when arrived and very dissapointed with that considering the brand and the price and what ive had been told and via reviews the edge was not up to standard atall for a brand new spyderco. However really nice knife

    A satisfying beast

I got one of these a few weeks ago as a gift from a family member on their travels. They know me too well. I've been fascinated by this unique knife since I first heard of it's impending release. Part butcher cleaver, part straight razor, all wrapped up in Spyderco's unique style. First thing you'll notice, this is a heavy knife. The heaviest folder I own. It feels satisfying. It's not legal for everyday carry due to the liner lock though, so I can't count its weight as a negative, since you're not going to have it in your pocket all day every day. It's big too, do pay attention to the dimensions. I have large hands (6'3") and it fit me like a glove, if you're on the smaller side it may be slightly too much perhaps. Regardless, the weighty feel carries through in the feel of the construction. It feels so sturdy and chunky, like it could take a real beating. I've not subjected it to one but after looking around online, it does seem to be durable overall. The blade itself is the star of the show. Meaty thickness like a cleaver. Beautiful curve like a straight razor. I've actually shaved with it just so I could say I have, out of the box. It's so aesthetically pleasing but goshdang does it ever cut! It has just enough weight that you can get a bit of momentum swinging it for a good chop, and the curved blade is a pleasure to slice with. VG-10 steel and lots of it means this blade will last. VG-10 is just a fine all-rounder steel that you've probably encountered before. It's boring but practical and does its job damn well. The downside is that while there's a slight tip to it, it's not much. I wouldn't rely on this blade for piercing tasks at all. It's a chopper and slicer, not a piercer. And a looker. Such a looker. The only real problem is I don't know who this knife is for. Collectors, I guess. I wouldn't use this over a real cleaver in the kitchen. Maybe someone dealing with meats and leathers etc who needs to be mobile around a warehouse? Tanners or something. I don't know. I fell in love with this thing on its looks alone, and found it to be such a wonderfully built knife but with no real niche for who would use it. If you want it, buy it. Use it for all your general purpose chopping and slicing needs. It's wonderfully well made. The knife itself is so well made and beautiful. But if you have even the slightest specialised need, buy a knife specifically fit for purpose. At the end of the day I can't knock it for not having a purpose, as it's up to the buyer to decide whether they need it in their knife. In all other ways the knife is great as hell.

    Excellent

Posted by Uriel on 11th Oct 2015

I wanted this knife as soon as I saw the first pre-release photos. I'm happy to say it lives up to my expectations. Fit and finish are, of course, of Spyderco's usual excellent standard. Blade deployment is quick and easy, and lock-up is rock solid, with no play in any direction. Blade grinds are very good, although it has to be said that this is the bluntest Spyderco I've ever received. (though this has been remedied with a reprofiled convex edge). It's VG-10, so there's no surprises with regard to how god the steel is. The knife is well balanced and comfortable in hand, though I suspect I may get some nice custom scales for it. Overall, this is one of my favourite Spyderco knives and I can heartily recommend it.
