Nice, but not especially safe

You can see from the pictures the knife is not a full strength Tanto, what with the various curves, but I still like the shape. I am not so impressed by the coated steel, but again this is a matter of taste. What I do take exception with is this part of the description - 'Innovative Double Detent Lock: Experience unmatched safety and ease of use.' The Double Detent is interesting, but it's not a lock: it's a tension that only exists when the blade is fully open or fully shut. In between the two, there is nothing to slow down a closing blade but possibly your fingers. Compared to knives with a classic backspring detent, this is the opposite of 'unmatched safety'. If you choose your uses carefully, this shouldn't be a problem, but the users (and the makers) should be aware of the risks. I added a thumb stud which makes one hand opening and closing very straightforward, especially if someone has been kind enough to remove the pocket clip for you. There seems to be an extra set of screws in the scales, which might have been put in when the design included a back spring but which now seems otiose. But overall I am happy with this addition to my red G10 collection.
