The Magnum Rangebuster is one of the classic Solingen knives that gained international popularity, being appreciated by working knife users all over the world. US farmers know it as Sodbuster, miners in Northern France call it Mineur, while workmen in Solingen named it Hippekniep. Honouring this traditional slipjoint knife, Magnum designed the Rangebuster Damascus with exclusive handle scales of dark ebony or snakewood and a blade of 73-layer Damascus steel. It opens with a nail nick and doesn't lock and has a blade under three inches long so is legal to carry within the UK.

    Poor quality

Posted by Rys on 28th Jul 2020

Mine is looks like been used before, and the blade is kind of dirty, apart from that it is not a real damascus steel its been printed on the surface. I am very dissapointed

    Really Pleased

Posted by Frank on 14th Jul 2020

I received my Magnum Rangebuster Damascus – Snakewood today and I must say I am stunned at the quality. I have carried a pocket knife all my life and always just thought of them as a tool, and have never spent a lot of money on them. I only found out recently the small lock knife I carried for many years is now illegal (stupid law to ban a safety function) so wanted to get a daily pocket knife. I saw the Damascus I thought it was amazingly cheap and so was not expecting much quality but thought I give it a try. The Rangemaster has a really nice Damascus pattern the fit and centering are spot on. There is a very small amount of flex on the pivot but for a knife, at this price, you cannot go wrong

    Great pocket knife IMO

Posted by MikeH on 7th Jul 2020

I opted for the Ebony version, in part due to the negative feedback on the Snakewood version, but also as it suits my other EDC gear better. I'm happy to report I'm very happy with the purchase and I have no issues with the one I received. The finish and quality of mine are great. No liner gaps, no flaws. Well-assembled and feels great. The 'walk and talk' is nice. There's a satisfying snap when opening and closing. I think the 'blade play' reported by other customers is perhaps just bad luck. On the one I received, there is a very slight blade play if you really want there to be (if you grab the tip of the blade and apply enough force!), but for me, this knife is a classic slipjoint, something cool to have in the pocket and won't be used for anything extreme. It still feels good to me. If you're after a good-looking, classic pocket knife for general EDC tasks at a good price, then IMO this is a great choice.

    Disappointed

Posted by RichC on 23rd Jun 2020

I have a Case Sodbuster and thought that this would be a nice upgrade as a daily carry. I opted for the more expensive snake wood option which was showing as on backorder. Initial impressions are good, it looks good and is well presented. On opening the blade the first impression is that the back spring is a bit weak so the lock up isn’t that positive, then you notice the thin blade and the fact it wobbles when open. I used the contact us feature to express my disappointment and have heard nothing back. I get we have a pandemic on the go, I’ve worked all the way through it, but this is the first time I have had this experience with Heinnies. I guess I’m stuck with it now, but sadly couldn’t recommend this knife, I so wanted to like this one, but the sub £20 Case blew it out of the water as a usable knife.

    Pretty knife ..... but!

Posted by Guitardoc on 2nd Jun 2020

Like the first reviewer I find the lateral play in the blade very disappointing. Especially since the riveted construction gives no real means of addressing it. In other respects this is a good looking knife and does hold a decent edge. HH, you should have looked closer at these before putting them on sale without any caveats it would be a shame to see your usually exemplary standards slip.

Not the most sturdy of knives

Posted by Aris on 9th May 2020

I ordered the snakewood version of this knife. Very beautiful! The blade itself too was very nice looking damascus - but this knife has flaws. Firstly a huge amount of lateral play in the blade. This is due to the blade being much thinner than the back spring. The blade itself also has a fair bit of flexibility - possibly due to how thin it is, and the fact that it is so thin. That in itself is not a deal breaker - but the lateral play in the blade out of the box is, so unfortunately I had to return this knife.

    WoW!

Posted by ZedRunner on 9th Apr 2020

I was a bit concerned about the price, I mean what kind of kit can you get for £32? But I shouldn't have worried, this is proper Boker quality at a third of the price! It has a attractive blade and a beautifully machined back spring. I would definitely recommend.
