A revolution in slip-joint construction! The Kizer Vagnino Zipslip G10. Custom knife makers Michael Vagnino and Tom Ferry have collaborated on a brand new knife mechanism called the "Ever Flush Spring" concept. The design includes a slit in the backbar creating the spring and upper tang stop meaning the backbar stays in place during opening and closing. Open the blade and watch the back bar stay in place and motionless.

Kizer have now produced this superb UK legal carry knife with G10 handle scales in a choice of colours and an N690 stainless steel blade.

    Outstanding knife.

Posted by Mark on 1st May 2020

I purchased the blue zipslip, and I have to say the quality is outstanding, can't believe its £65 could so easily be £100+, awesome blade very sharp out of the box, even grind, scales feel amazing, love the fact there's no movement on the spine with open/close, looks and feels great in the hand, nice deep carry clip, one hand open after a bit of practice is smooth. I would definitely recommend this knife.

It grows on you BIG style!

Posted by Kev Broon on 27th Feb 2020

Did I say BIG? I couldn't think of a word to both convey how solid this thing feels and how much you'll come to like it in the title. Oh aye right, the review... As a knife the blade is nice & slicey for EDC tasks but feels strong enough to handle HD tasks too, I'll explain why later. The handle is solid & feels warm almost, like a natural wood but obviously with more robust qualities that you'll get with a synthetic material. There isn't a 'show' side as the only difference is the pocket clip on one side, the pivot and torx screws are identically faced. Incidentally the pocket clip is very deep carry with no logos whatsoever, absolutely perfect to me. One modification I insist you make is to fit a thumb stud. It's not as easy as you'd think to open it one hand with the thumb hole and it really turns this knife into a 'fidget fiddlers' *** dream! The action and sound this thing makes just opening & closing is addictive. I've got BB flippers that aren't as satisfying as this. Also when actually using it as a knife (I know...my bad!) the grip you get with the tip of your thumb on the stud and index finger in the choil is amazing hence I said you could use it for HD tasks too. Seriously, get this knife. Only negative I can say is my right middle finger would have preferred it if the 1/2 stop was actually a 1/2 stop but hey, pain heals & chicks dig scars, right?!

    The perfect EDC?

Posted by theredrocket on 27th Jan 2020

I was going for the Manly Wasp, but I found that while it was a nice blade, it was too hard to open and didn't really have the finish I was hoping for. Not this issue with the Zipslip. The opening and closing is divide, giving a satisfying tap-click when it closes. The blade is sharp out of the box and coms in a matt style. Not to everyone's taste, but I like it. I also like the hole for opening the blade. It feels very comfortable in the hand too. There's a trade-off on spring. I don't want something to tight, so this is just right for me. The overall finish is lovely too. Not quite perfect (the blade was maybe a mm out of dentral alignment and one of the rivets is ever so slightly rough), but overall it feels high quality and well machined. Is it the perfect EDC? It completely depends what you want out of a knife. For me, having something that is mostly for urban use, with the odd bit of gardening and diy tasks, it's ideal.

I bought this Kizer Vagnino Zipslip G10 on impulse because something impressed me about the pictures on Heinnie Haynes' website despite the Kizer brand being unknown to me. I have a similar knife that I use and like as an EDC - the original(?) Spyderco UK Penknife with G10 scales, also purchased from Heinnie Haynes - and I thought this might be an interesting alternative. HH delivered in the usual fashion - 2 working days from order - with emails keeping me informed at every stage. So what about the knife? This knife is VERY pleasing to look at and handle. The standard of finish exceeds Spyderco in my opinion. Kizer must be spending an amazing amount on getting the details just right - from the complex grinds on the blade, with no less than five laser engravings - what I guess are brand, series, model, blade steel and catalogue number - to the scales and these deserve special mention. Imagine Spyderco G10 - flat with an aggressive texture - well, Kizer's approach seems to be to sculpt G10 in all three dimensions, more smoothly so that it's not as aggressive but remains grippy. I can't detect a burr or unfinished edge anywhere on this knife - including the pocket clip. Add details like the spiral machining on the axis-pin and you have a knife that must be expensive to manufacture. Reservations? Yes, it's not quite as easy to open one-handed as the Spyderco but it's not impossible with care. I haven't used it at all yet, so I can't comment about edge retention and sharpening. The blade on mine is perfectly centred and opens and closes smoothly. I'm not knocking Spyderco, my UK Penknife is serving me well, and I will generally recommend the Spyderco brand. But if you're looking for something similar, with a little more refinement, you should definitely consider this knife. £80 for HH's special edition red G10 UK Penknife vs £65 for this Kizer - tough decision!

    Excellent Knife

Posted by John on 28th Jul 2019

This is my everyday knife and my most expensive folder, The blade spring is fine, No problem, I am not a big fan of the stone washed blade i prefer a shiny but i love the shape of the blade and the G10 handle is grippy enough, I have been looking for a case for my knife and it`s not easy, I bought an Whitby Universal Brown Leather Pouches 4'' and it fits well and it not expensive. It feels like a strong knife and hopefully it will last many years. Recommended.

    A fine knife, but......

Posted by David on 2nd Jul 2019

I'm generally pretty picky, but the only fault I can find is that the design does not work as a one-hand piece. I cannot open it with one hand and the angle of the blade at the half stop makes it a two hand job to close safely. Apart from that it is a fine knife which get plenty of use from me.

    Excellent

Posted by Dave on 27th Jun 2019

Always wanted the uk legal but wasn't paying £160, I'm not disappointed with this at all, great choil which I like on all my legals Used it daily but today been playing with some wood, it has held up very well. I like the fact it doesn't snap shut from half closed. Kept it's edge very well. The only slight thing is the blade isn't centred. But the performance of the knife outweighs that. HH service top notch as usual

    Good Kit

Posted by Dennis on 26th Jun 2019

It arrived the day after I ordered it and I haven't stopped smiling since I opened it. It's a solid knife with a very smooth action, it has immediately become my new EDC. Good kit, highly recommended.
