Helikon-Tex SAS Smock

The military smock jacket returns in an improved version. Helikon-Tex preserved classic elements but enriched them, so the vintage style goes hand in hand with functionality.

The Helikon-Tex SAS Smock is fully zipped and fills the gap between two anoraks in the Helikon-Tex offer: the heavier and more advanced Anorak Pilgrim Jacket, and the lighter Anorak Woodsman Jacket. The whole smock is made of Duracanvas material suitable for waxing and increases protection against light rain and snow.

The SAS Smock Jacket is versatile because of the simple cut and the possibility of adjustment in several places. The light hood is adjustable in two planes. This solution allows the hood to be precisely adjusted to the head depending on the weather conditions, hat, etc. Thanks to two welts - one at the waist, the other at the bottom edge - you can freely adjust the degree of adherence of the jacket to the body. So you can increase or decrease the ventilation under the jacket according to your needs. An additional convenience is the vents placed under the armpits. Combined with lightweight construction, they made a jacket for any weather from summer to winter.

Despite its military roots, the SAS Smock works great as a bushcraft jacket. This is mostly because of the simple but well-thought-out cut and capacity. This smock jacket has eight pockets. On the outside, four classic, square pockets fastened with Canadian buttons. It is a tribute to the iconic British uniform jackets and their functionality. A pocket with a button sewn on the tape is easier to open, and the risk of the button falling off is minimal. Under the upper pockets, there are two more, fastened with zippers on the side. They are best for carrying flat items. Under the lower pockets, identical solutions allow you to hide and warm your hands. In each breast pocket, there is a special loop for attaching equipment, which protects it from loss. Bushcraft gloves can be attached to the paracord loops on both sides of the jacket.

The inspiration for the SAS Smock Jacket was military clothing worn by SAS (Special Air Service) units and others. Since World War II, many models valued it for their loose, comfortable cut, many pockets, and light material that protected against weather conditions. Since the 1940s until today, smock jackets are popular in many countries and appreciated for their versatility.

    Very nice

Posted by Ian Dewdney on 6th Feb 2024

Very nice coat, appears to be well made and quality, lots of pockets, chest ones also have air holes to keep cool as the nature of the material keeps the heat in. The hood when fully zipped up wraps around the chin and nose to keep wind and rain at bay, I’m a slight build and the small fits a little larger than normal but there’s lots of pull cords to make it tighter in most areas. Overall I think it’s a better quality product than some other coats I’ve had recently.

    Helikon-Tex SAS Smock

Posted by Colin on 29th Dec 2023

Heinnie at their best again with speedy delivery of quality products . The jacket is better than I thought and the quality is amazing . Plenty of storage pockets and the sizing is perfect . I am medium in most things especially jackets and it was the perfect fit. The wife measured me and checked with the sizing . I wear it with a fleece in the cold weather and it’s warm and protective from the elements . It looks amazing!

    Excellent

Posted by J Mac on 19th Dec 2023

Very well made smock, cannot find any stitching errors anywhere. Nice waited fabric. Great fit but I understand the previous reviewer they are smaller as thats the style and M65 is a large over jacket designed to have a liner so will be cut bigger than this, just go a size bigger. Once you get the size its super comfy and cant wait to try it it.

    Very disappointed, woefully undersized

Posted by Jon M on 17th Dec 2023

Bought this as a general use jacket. Ordered XXL as I have a Helikkn Tex M65 Jacket in that size, and that is an excellent fit. This is also shown in the size guide as being suitable for a 54" chest, which would be ample for me. On delivery, I checked the tags, and it was indeed an XXL, however it is laughably small, and is absolutely dwarfed by my XXL M65 jacket from the same manufacturer. The sizing is completely incorrect and misleading, and is so small that I have given it to my skinny nephew who is an " L" at best, and it is almost tight on hm. Absolute waste of money, and very disappointing, a shame as the actual quality of the jacket is good.
