Are non-locking knives more dangerous than locking knives?

Are non-locking knives more dangerous than locking knives?

This is a question we get asked constantly, we mean constantly!!

The question really arises from people’s perception that a non-locking blade has increased chance of closing on your fingers than a locking blade. Well yes that is true, however we don’t neccessarily believe that to always be the case . . .

A knife is a cutting tool, it’s not something to mess around with. We say that if you are using a knife as it was designed for then it shouldn’t matter if you have a locking blade or not. The cutting action itself forces the blade to stay open. If you are inexperienced or using it incorrectly there is always a chance you will hurt yourself no matter what knife you are using.

We also tend to find that people who use locking blades tend to be less cautious with them and put too much trust into the mechanism. This ultimately can lead to (but not always) disaster. With a non-locking knife there is a natural thought process that says to the user, I need to be careful here as the blade isn’t secure. We think this is fantastic security in itself!
