Butch Vallotton, like most knifemakers, started
making knives as a hobby, had to start selling
knives to pay for his hobby and before he knew it
became a professional fulltime knifemaker in 1984
with a waiting list of customers at the age of thirty.
A self-proclaimed gadget freak, he is credited with
inventing the ambidextrous blade thumb stud.

His collaboration with Spyderco called the Vallotton
Sub Hilt Folder features an ambidextrous thumb
stud that both opens the blade (in addition to the
Spyderco Round Hole) and doubles as a stop pin
keeping the blade from rotating open beyond the
locked position.

A long time fan of Italian-style, heavy-stock folders
the Sub-Hilt bears an international flavor with a
modified coffin-shaped handle of polished black
G-10 with tongue-and-groove fitted stainless
bolsters. Further complementing the handle is a
Michael Walker LinerLock® a four-way: tip-up/tip-
down, right- or left-handed steel clip and screw-
together scale construction.

Crucible Steel Inc. of New York produces the CPM-
S30V powdered steel used for the modified Tanto-
shaped blade. The blade is hollow-ground at the
cutting edge with a convex-grind at the tip and is
offered PlainEdged for the best available cutting
performance.

What can I say ! This folder is absolute perfection in every way from the fit and finish to the razor sharp edge out the box! I'm a very nit picky knife collecter and I can't find one single flaw in this knife! Solid lock up perfect centering ! Work of art!!!!!

    lot for your lolly

    Posted by freqeist1 on 5th Jul 2017

This is the knife that after years of knife collecting I have finally got. good size, flips well, beautifully made. I dont think I will ever actually cut anything with it or like the other reviewer says: Buy two. certainly if you dont have one they are definitely worth thier price (unlike some knives I could mention).

Taichung make it better than Golden Colorado..!

Posted by Mantanna on 21st Jun 2014

It's fairly hard to see the 'soul' of this knife in a photo or you tube clip..but when its in your hand.. it ALL makes sense. It feels incredibly solid and substantial, confirms to you that's it's fit and ready for any purpose. Fit and finish in my opinion at a new world standard for production knife making... If you like knives in anyway than you need to get this.. IMO the Vallotton is a man's folder' as it should be!

    Vallotton Folder

Posted by Jim on 31st Oct 2013

This design is both mean looking and classy, stylishly dangerous is another way to put it. It is beautifully put together with no flaws. The blade deploys smooth and fast then locks solidly into place. The grind is really impressive, a hollow grind until you get to the tip which is left thicker for extra strength. As I expect with Spyderco the edge is extremely sharp. The g10 scales are polished and have a wood like look to them, though smooth they are still grippy. The shape and thickness of the handle gives me plenty to hold on to however I grip it. I feel like I should be well dressed to carry this classy blade.

    Spyderco classic

Posted by Cultcollector on 2nd Jul 2013

This arrived this morning and it didn't disappoint. I wasn't sure at first and think it's a knife that needs a hands on to really understand it. It's unique in looks for a Spyderco fnf are spot on. A beast of a blade with tight G10 scales and bolsters, make it a very attractive knife. If you are going to buy this I'd get two if you plan on using it. It's so pretty that you'll want one for the collection and a user. As always flawless service from HH thanks guys. Cc
