MKM, or Maniago Knife Makers, is a consortium representing knife-makers from ‘the home of knives’ around the world. The company is headquartered in Maniago itself, around 70 miles from Venice in the region of Friuli Venezia Giulia (Italy). Founded in 1960, the consortium brings together makers of knives, scissors and similar products, and for almost 60 years it has been promoting all things Made in Maniago. The brand MKM, already in use in the past, has been revamped and relaunched, with the aim of offering the market new collections, created through partnerships with local knife-makers.

The very first MKM-branded collection is quite extraordinary, both in terms of its technology and its production philosophy. Five sporting knives, in 28 different versions, thought up by two world-renowned designers, Bob Terzuola and Lucas Burnley.

The Fara is a Lucas Burnley design displaying typical flare and functionality. This version has canvas micarta handle scales in a choice of green or natural colour. The blade is Bohler M390 "Microclean" stainless steel and opens like a traditional pen knife with the nail groove. There isn't a pocket clip so no distraction to the beautiful lines of the knife. The handle features a lanyard hole for your to personalise as you wish.Plus it is supplied with a beautiful Italian leather pouch.

    A trusty Friend

Posted by David Allen on 20th Feb 2023

I have owned this knife for nearly two years now, so feel I have given it a thorough beating. FIt and finish is faultless on mine. I simply love the way the knife clunks into each of the stops and gives a real sense of sturdiness to it, and no issues with the knife nicking my finger on it's way through. The steel hasn't let me down once, and it requires very infrequent sharpening, even after my son has had his hands on it doing all sorts of things to the sticks he picks up on walks etc. Size wise, the blade does most everyday tasks with ease, and the handle hasn't caused me any issues with any prolonged use. I wear an XL size mens glove and can get all 4 fingers comfortably round the scales. The supplied sheath is also gorgeous. Lovely leather that has developed a patina and battle scars along the way, and has now conformed to the shape of the knife over the years. I really like the magnetic tab that makes it super easy to carry this in my pocket while holding it in place. In fact, the only reason I haven't given this 5 stars is because the magnet on the inside of the sheath has come unstuck and every now and then just needs a little push back into rightful place. Doesn't stop the sheath from being secure however. Overall, this knife has become of those trusty friends that goes almost everywhere with me and can be relied upon time after time again.

    Not impressed

Posted by Jack B on 18th Sep 2021

A lot of money for a “that will do” product. Grind is all over the place (and I mean waves), ergo’s are only fit for tiny hands, the back spacer has what can only be described as an “accidental slip” during milling resulting in a flat spot, and the half stop still hits your finger. Maybe I received a bad example but I’m disappointed
