Soon after its introduction in the mid-1920's, the
KA-BAR trademark became widely known and
respected. There have been many versions of how
the KA-BAR name came to be, but all evidence
points to a letter received from a fur trapper. This
particular fur trapper's testimonial turned out to be
the most significant ever received by the company.
He wrote, in very rough English, that his gun had
jammed and that he had therefore relied on his
knife to kill a wounded bear that was attacking him.
In thanking the company for their quality product
the trapper described using his knife to kill the
bear. All that was legible of his scrawled writing
was "k a bar". The company was so honored by this
testimonial that they adopted this phrase and used
it as their trademark, KA-BAR.

Part of the most well-received family of folding
knives introduced by KA-BAR in several years, this
knife is not only a practical, but affordably priced
lockback designed by Bob Dozier.

    Bully for Mr Dozier!

Posted by Stevo on 27th Aug 2018

Nice and light, with easy one hand operation. Sort of a more budget-conscious Delica. All right, diehard Spyderco fans would disagree, but it really is well made at this price point. And you get the ergonomic advantages from a custom designer made to a perfectly acceptable standard, albeit mass produced. Mine has an orange handle and black powder coated blade, which after a few years of considerable use is acquiring some character. The oval thumb hole is a bit more positive than my Spyderco Drop Point Lightweight UK Penknife, with its circular thumb hole just a bit more slippery. Mind you, it's an early Chinese example in sabre-ground GIN-1, with a larger chamfer on the thumb hole. My recently purchased UKPK from Heinnie's with its broad leaf type blade, is much more crisp and certain in both feel and operation. But back to the Dozier - the oval thumb hole is very sure, and seems to require less conscious force to guide it either opening or closing. Smooth but not sloppy. The steel certainly sharpens easily, and the size is just right. Being a lock knife, it stays home and ventures no further than the garden. I really like this one. It's comfortable, not a bulky lump in a pocket, and is easy to maintain.

    Good around the house

Posted by Greg on 8th Feb 2015

I have been using it for quite few years now so despite being made in Taiwan the finish and built quality is quite good. The blade can be sharpened very well but it holds the edge really poorly and it must be sharpened very often- especially if the knife is used for fine jobs.

I've owned this knife for about two years now and like the other reviewer use it daily at work! It's a great knife at a great price. The black on the clip will wear off in time and it is made in Taiwan. Still I love it! Buy it here!!!

I've carried one of these to work daily for years, it takes a good edge and keeps it. A rugged, compact and practical tool, superb value.A friend.
