Gerber Stake Out Graphite Multi-tool

Blade & Scissors sharp out of the box, the pivot for the Scissors, Awl, and Saw is tight and it is hard to deploy them, the Stake Puller could do with the hook being twisted slightly so you can use it more easily.

The usual fast service from Heinnie, main blade smooth operation and sharp, other tools stiff lacking lube, the peg hook is a a pain to deploy which could be made easier to use if the pivot it latches over was domed.

Handy.

No fault to Heinne who dispatched this order promptly via courier etc - but was quite disappointed by the features and quality of this multitool. True it falls under the Chinese arm of the American company's manufacturing with the US made products like the Centre Drive or fixed blade Strongarm / LMF 2 being of superior quality. The Stakeout comes with terrible scissors - despite looking like they are substantial cut much worse than the weakest /smallest Victorinox - the deployment of the tent hook pull is terrible - requiring you to really damage your thumbnails as you have to lift it out of its receptor before sliding it out, similarly the awl and saw are tough to unfold - even after I had oiled all components and even the spring of the carabiner doesn't return under enough tension - so my faith that it would still be hooked to a belt loop or MOLLE webbing of a pack after some camping exercises is not great. Also and this is probably entirely my fault - but unlike other multitools aimed at camping - it doesn't come with a small ferro rod - the confusion is it comes with a weird strike plate that is sort of like a metal file on the surface to be used with a ferro rod of your own - this was probably my fault here - but a video I watched from Gerber before I made the purchase gave that impression - also the removable tweezers pictured kind of look like a removable ferro rod - anyways... Heinnie offered this item at the keenest price around - I'm going to try and use and abuse the hell out of this thing to vindicate my buyer's remorse - bottom line while no one is likely to think that this could be a stripped down version of a superior multitool like the Leatherman Signal (ferro rod included) and with the price significantly cheaper than such - it is quite poor form for even the China made Gerber products and I would advise staying clear and saving your money towards a better Gerber or indeed a Leatherman. Rant over ;-)

This is a brilliant bit of kit, just about all you need for a quick camping trip or a day’s hiking. I wouldn’t leave home without it.

To be honest Gerber have made better. I don't like that it is very stiff in operation, perhaps a manufacturing fault of insufficient lubrication, that's why it only received four stars.

This is a great multi tool from Gerber. It has a sharp easily deployable blade and effective scissors. The tent hook is a little harder to get out but like the other tools it is well made so sure to be capable. I think this is a good looking and handy bit of kit.
