The Fallkniven X Series F1 is, arguably, the worlds most functional and high performing survival knife. It is certainly one of the best made with the best materials and at a price that, considering the spec, is a bargain! The X series certainly has the X factor!

The basis of the X-knife’s strength lies in the laminated cobalt steel in combination with the well-thought-out construction in which break zones have been eliminated. Together with the hand-shaped convex edge, the X-knife is a concept that beats everything else in the world in terms of safety, comfort and hard use.

Lam. Cos stands for Laminated Cobalt Steel. It is at least 20% stronger than a solid stainless steel. The F1X uses a steel "sandwich". The "bread" is almost corrosion free, 420J stainless with a super hard Cobalt Steel "filling."

It is supplied with a Kydex sheath with a "transport lock." Meaning the knife can be stored in a ready to go position or locked in so it can be stored in the tip up or down position.

Fallkniven F1 (X Series, Laminated Cobalt)

Posted by Autolycus on 14th Jul 2021

One inevitable question asked about all outdoor activities is “If you could only have one knife, which one would it be..?” The answer to that was always bewildering, with the choice of factory or hand-made blades growing daily. Now Fallkniven have simplified the selection down to just one - their new F1 in laminated Cobalt steel, with a full tang and removable handle scales. This is truly an “heirloom” knife - as even with the worst abuse one could devise, I doubt it could be damaged to any great degree. The familiar Fallkniven edge is shaving sharp, out of the box - yet far more robust than more delicate bevelled or scandi-ground edges. The spine feels sharp enough for scraping tinder and fire-steels, the tang extends from the butt with a useful lanyard hole and there is a sharpening choil to make that task simpler. The sheath is compact, surprisingly sturdy and has a firm locking cam that absolutely will not allow the knife to fall out, if locked correctly. Personally, my early (basic F1 with laminated stainless blade), version of this knife sits better in an old horizontal leather sheath (eBay/Bear Grylls branded), with a swift tweak to that securing strap stud - so this one will probably end up encased in the same, with a handy fire steel sleeve and not-so-useful pouch attached. Best of all is that this particularly perfect provider of slicing superiority is the price - which those nice chaps at Heinnie Haynes will have shown above. In short, anything this good for less than £200 is well worth your consideration..!

    Solid blade, cheap scales

Posted by Chevvy on 29th Aug 2020

Blade is thick and heavy! Twice the weight a lot fo knives of the same length. Good for batoning and chopping small branches. Really really like the new locking sheath, means I can keep it upside down on my pack and not worry about it falling out. Blade is very weather resistant and takes a very sharp edge that lasts a long time. Have never needed to sharpen it on 3 day trips. Scales are a bit of a let down. Thin, holes for the hex screws are no quite centred and the Thermorun has a small gap on one side - expect better QA for a £200+ knife. Fortunately as they are kept in place by hex they can be replaced easily.

    Good value

Ive owned many fallknivens but this one feels solid more than the rest.. Very sharp out of the box.. The sheath is a massive improvement on the regular ones !! My only complaint is the torx screws,I don't own two of the same screwdrivers ! I just assume it's tight enough.. I'm still giving this five stars because it's a beast for the price, extremely happy with it :)

    Fantastic

Super service again. Knife is a beauty & feels awesome in the hand. Very very aggressive grip texture on the scales on first looks ,but really positive in the hand. I wouldn't be at all surprised if someone doesn't come out with after market scales & bolts. Built a tad heavier than the original I think it's a brilliant upgrade on a seriously good knife in the F1. Looking forward to getting the S1x next. Don't need one , but I want one.
