Fällkniven AB marks its 40th anniversary in the international knife market by releasing a special edition of their bestselling F1 Pilot Survival Knife, now crafted with an exclusive, high-class Swedish powder steel, Elmax. This exceptional knife's story began in 1987 when the Swedish Air Force commissioned us to create a survival knife that could meet the advanced technical demands of the JAS 39 Gripen system.
In August 1995, Fallkniven delivered the first batch of several thousand F1 knives to the Swedish Armed Forces, and by the following year, they introduced them to the civilian market. The response was phenomenal. For the first time, a genuine survival knife—devoid of fishing hooks, compasses, and serrated blade spines—featuring a blade made from advanced, rust-resistant special steel, was available globally. This marked a stark departure from the outdated technologies that had dominated the development of survival knives since World War II. Fallkniven chose to invest in high-quality steels that were not only stronger and maintained sharpness longer but were also more costly and challenging to process. Furthermore, they designed the handle to ensure safety and comfort, even in cold climates.
