When Benchmade’s AXIS lock technology was released on the original 710 back in 1999, it sent more than ripples through the knife industry; it was a tsunami. The innovative AXIS lock changed the game — all thanks to the designer duo Benchmade collaborated with on the invention, Bill McHenry and Jason Williams, renowned custom knifemakers with watchmaking roots.

The sleek 710FE-2401 is a testament to McHenry and Williams’ craftwork. Celebrating the 25th Anniversary of AXIS lock technology, the 710FE-2401 has the same large frame and ample cutting power of the original 710 and features a stylish drop-point, recurved blade made of mighty CPM-Magnacut steel with an FDE PVD finish and black thumb studs. The 710FE-2401 has a lightweight aluminum handle with milled black anodized finish, and milled FDE PVD backspacer and pivot ring. A Limited Anniversary variant, inspired by its original designers.

Benchmade 710FE 2401 Seven Ten Folding Knife

Posted by JIM DARRIN on 2nd Sep 2024

I bought the original version of the BM 710 when they first came out (with the original Axis-lock and a BT2 coated ATS-34 blade) and, honestly, its been the best folding knife I've owned for twenty-five years. It was my EDC for many years with a lot of usage and still looks as good today as it did when I first got it. (shame you can't upload photo's here). Naturally, I couldn't resist taking a look at the new '25-Year Anniversary model' so I purchased one from HH and wasn't disappointed. Side by side the new model is an absolute fitting tribute to the original, as BM has said, with updated (upgraded?) materials and a newer version of the Axis-lock. It feels great in the hand, ergonomically just right and has a really nice weight to it - 5.2oz vs the original at 4.4oz. The Magnacut blade, if you believe the consensus these days, should be an improvement on the original ATS-34 but, that said, I've always liked ATS-34; it keeps a keen edge and has always been easy to sharpen. This new 710 is undoubtedly a great knife made with quality materials and produced in a limited number, reflected in the high price. Hopefully it'll still be a great knife twenty-five years on. Only time will tell.............

    Benchmade 710FE 2401

Posted by Malc M on 5th Aug 2024

Really impressed with this. I went for the limited model in. Black as it has the contoured handles over the flatter slab profile of the other (sea green ano) one, which is still attractive in my opinion. This thing is solid in hand and the long slim blade, with the slight recurve works incredibly well. It is sharp. Action is excellent out of the box, controlled on closing, not drop shut that to me is not desirable. The new axis lock springs are much smoother, unlike my new blue bailout (don't get me started on that) and the release lugs have a profiled shape that work great. Expensive, but highly recommend. A standout Benchmade, even better than my limited Mini Adamas and the full immunity, which is a cracker too.
