    WorkSharp Ken Onion Edition

Posted by David on 23rd Sep 2023

After a helpful conversation with a member of staff, I decided to bite the bullet and buy this not-so-cheap device. No regrets whatsoever. It has a small learning curve, but after just a few minutes getting the fiddling right, the test knife that could not pass the paper-cut test now passed it pretty well. It will take more practise before I can deliver razor results, but that’s my problem, not the device’s. In other words, I am very pleased with this instrument and consider it an excellent purchase for anyone who likes his knives sharp.

    Worth it

Posted by The Rhodesian on 9th Jul 2020

I have used many different methods to put an edge on my knives, not always successfully and most of them, very time consuming. My wife bought this as a christmas present and I thought it might end up being an expensive toy that I'd never use. How wrong was I? I practiced on an old knife and in 5 minutes it was hair popping sharp. I was seriously impressed. Read how to use it properly and watch one of the many videos on YouTube and it is idiot proof. Every knife in the house is now razor sharp. Yes, its expensive but that pales with the satisfaction of time saved and results obtained. I wouldn't be without it now. Highly recommended.

    You'll never look back.

Posted by Stu on 27th Dec 2016

If your thinking of buying this or are pondering as wether or not to get this , just buy this as you'll never look back as it sharpens and polishes knives to a razor edge and I don't say that likely. All the other sharpening methods such as whetstone or other electric grinders I've tried and this is the only sharpening machine that actually delivers what it promises. My dad actually whined at me for sharpening the kitchen knives to sharp but as I said to him he was the person responsable for cutting him self not me and not the knife as he was in control but this wonderful machine not only sharpens knives it can sharpen (with the right attachments) axes, lawn mower blades, chisels drills and can sand wood or plastic so it's so versatile. The belts are cheap and easy to get hold of and because this is making tsunamis in the knife world parts are easy to get hold of but this machine will pay for itself and you'll never look back again oh also if you have ceramic knives you can buy diamond grit belts to sharpen them with n this machine and you can also sharpen cut throats razors to with a leather strop belt !.

    Unbeatable

Posted by chris on 8th Aug 2016

I've been messing about with all sorts of sharpening methods for years, with mixed results. Have had this one for a few months, and it is an awesome piece of kit. Pricey, but you get what you pay for. Will now get rid of all the other stuff, as I certainly will never need to use it again!433

    Actually very good

Posted by Jack on 15th Jul 2016

I have been taking care of my own blades for years and have become a dab hand with Indian oil stones or Japanese wet stones. Although time consuming it is quite satisfying honing an edge to razor sharpness. I have been intrigued by the work sharp since its introduction and years later I finally succumbed to purchasing the Ken Onion edition. After watching a few YouTube clips and reading the instructions I felt suitably informed to get stuck into a few knives. I keep all my wife's kitchen knives sharp and she had mentioned a few days earlier that they were starting to dull, so these were first. It was remarkable after a few strokes either side of different grits from coarse to fine how amazingly sharp the knifes became. The more I did the more efficient I became with the work sharp. I was soon getting stuck into my entire knife collection, bringing them all up to hair popping sharpness, no matter what size or make of blade. There is one flaw and that is on smaller pocket knife blades the angle rest runs out so that the last part of the blade is being done freehand as it has nothing to rest on. For me this wasn't a real drama as I simply took my time and care. I played about with different honing angles and all became paper shredders in no time at all. Now I do like a convex grind, but I am also a fan of the scandi grind. My scandi' are super sharp but I couldn't resist running one of my bushcraft knifes through the work sharp. I didn't go heavy on it, I simply gave it a few strokes either side on diffent grits and the result was a mini convex grind making it a double bevel. It was and still is hair popping sharp and still looks like a scandi grind. The whole thing is pretty much idiot proof. There is no need to press down hard into or against the angle rests, just follow the easy to read and follow instructions and you will be amazed by the results. My wife actually moaned that her knifes are now too sharp.....go figure eh. I did purchase the additional leather strop belt that you can get and this for me finished the edges off to purists perfection. The stones are now staying in the drawer for the time being ......maybe until the novelty wears off or maybe forever...who knows. The bottom line is this. If you want to put a razors edge on any knife in double quick time or you are not very good with stones then the work sharp Is for you.
