The Tramontina Machete is probably one of the best value chopping tools that we sell here at Heinnie Haynes. From garden work and brush clearance to harvesting Brussels sprouts, shelter building and trekking through thick jungle, the Tramontina Machete is a great sidekick to have!

Its bolo shape provides a large cutting edge, and it also boasts great forward throwing weight whilst not being too front heavy.

As it is a chopping tool, do not expect this machete to be razor sharp on delivery. However, you should expect a chopping tool that will make pretty light work over most tasks. After all it is made in Brazil where they know a thing or two about making machetes!

For ease of carrying the machete has also been supplied with PVC leather-look sheath which includes a belt loop.

Got it very quick, sharpened it and tried it. Cuts like the tree would be butter and the best thing the edge didn't damaged.

    Amazing.

Possibly the best 15 I've ever spent, I bought this maybe 6 months ago and it's taken a real battering, but still sharpens nicely and just eats up foliage/branches for breakfast. If you're thinking about buying one just do it, you will not regret it. Fantastic tool.

    10 year review

Posted by Troy on 27th Apr 2021

I bought one of these from HH about 10 years ago. Mine is a slightly different shape to this one (this one is more bolo style and actually looks better) and mine didn't come with a sheath. Its got a robust and nicely weighted blade, thin enough not to be too heavy and so that it slices well. Mine has had a real battering over the years, I've not been delicate with it and used it for chopping firewood, clearing brambles and shrubs, stripping branches to make poles, cutting ropes, cutting sailcloth, even stoking the fire and it's still going strong. The handle has started to work a little bit loose around the rivets but I just need to peen them and I'm sure that'll do it. It will give you blisters after very extensive use so I wear a glove if I'm going to be giving it some hard use. Decent steel, I keep mine lightly oiled and there's no corrosion at all. Mine was blunt out of the box but it sharpens well, I sharpen it using a technique I learned from one of the locals in the rainforest of Indonesia - put the blade point down, sharp edge up in a bucket of water holding the handle and keeping it firmly in position then running the whetstone down the blade. It always comes up very sharp, I keep quite a steep angle so the edge doesn't thin too much. No doubt produced in the millions in Brazil and sold even more cheaply there. Its a no-frills basic work tool that does it's job really, really well. Will do a lot of tasks including batoning, cutting poles for shelters, making traps and even digging, so makes a great survival tool. Great value and well worth it.

    Superb.

Excellent machete for the price, superb for clearing scrub and bushes, extremely easy to sharpen razor sharp in know time at all, the sheath is no good but will do until I make a leather one. Very happy with my purchase I would definitely recommend it.
