The Tramontina Machete is probably one of the best value chopping tools that we sell here at Heinnie Haynes. From garden work and brush clearance to harvesting Brussels sprouts, shelter building and trekking through thick jungle, the Tramontina Machete is a great sidekick to have!

Its bolo shape provides a large cutting edge, and it also boasts great forward throwing weight whilst not being too front heavy.

As it is a chopping tool, do not expect this machete to be razor sharp on delivery. However, you should expect a chopping tool that will make pretty light work over most tasks. After all it is made in Brazil where they know a thing or two about making machetes!

For ease of carrying the machete has also been supplied with PVC leather-look sheath which includes a belt loop.

    Amazing value

After modding (shaped the handle with a file and rasp to create a palm swell; created a sharpening choil and extended the cutting edge down to it, sliced off the top 5cm, and convexed the whole edge), this is one of my favorite blades, as well as one of my cheapest. It's rough around the edges when you receive it but it's fundamentally well designed and built so if you have the time to put into it you can have a top quality machete for the price of a mora companion. You can't argue with that.

    Tramontina Bolo machete

Posted by Tris on 19th Apr 2023

Awesaome. Ive had one of these for 20 years. I ordered two of them. I was expecting to have to tidy it up no end before I could use it. Not really. I sharpened it with a DC4 because I could, but it would have worked out of the box. Once youve sharpened it, the first thing you do is slice the sheath near the top rivet, when you draw a sharp machete from the sheath. I'll polish mine up with the CC4 to 8000 grit to make it look like a stainless steel machete, lol. I might stain the handle, my 20 year old machete has my blood on the handle, still. It has no pointy tip, its not even sharpened as far as the section that hits the ground when you use it. Its about the same price as a mora robust companion. If you only mount it on the wall, you should get one, or two.

    Tramontina Machete

First and only machete I've owned so cannot judge it against others. Bought to hack through dead garden shrubs and it done its job admirably. Can't comment on holding an edge etc but for this price, you simply can't go wrong.

    Great for price point

Posted by Rory on 16th Nov 2022

Very happy with this! Overall I’d say it’s brilliant for the price point, it’s held up great under heavy use, the size and feel of this are great, very comfortable to use, and can hold up well cutting through branches/smaller trees. Easy to sharpen, it takes about 5-10 minutes with a 200/300/400/600 grit diamond block that I had originally for my hatchets and axes. One thing I will say, out of the package, it still had quite a large burr along almost the entire blade, but a couple of minutes spent removing this and touching up the blade edge was no problem at all. I’d highly recommend this to anyone looking to get their first machete, at an affordable price.

    Tramontina Bolo? Machete

Posted by Emil Horșia on 2nd Aug 2022

Definitely the working man tool, comes a little bit sharp, tip heavy, the handle is a bit on the small side and I would definitely recommend gloves while working with it unless you are a jungle harden Brazilian ; the area around the tip is not sharpened! The steel that is made out of feels solid and I think it will be very useful around the camp once I’ll sharpen it properly . My personal view is that it’s a good buy for the price of 15£+ delivery !

    Danny Trejo……….

Posted by Chris Thompson on 8th Jul 2022

Well, it’s a machete, from Brazil no less. Although I am not heading up the Amazon, I did spend an hour clearing a slope of assorted nettles and brambles and other undergrowth. This machete was up to the task and I am more than happy with it. For what you pay and what you get, you really can’t complain. Thanks Heinnie.

    Machete

Posted by Stuart Hall on 4th Jul 2022

I feel this is the best value machete you can get. The balance is perfect while not being too long/short or heavy. The steel while not being amazing sharpens up very well and is ideal for the job of machete not seen any rust on it yet .

    Low price but solid machete

Posted by Mitchell on 5th Jun 2022

i love this type of gear, no frills but built to do a job. its carbon steel so you'll have to keep the blade oilled. The scales are wooden so you can shape them to your own personal ergo's. This'll outlast machetes many times the price
