The popular class of FDX (Field Duty Xtreme) Knives manufactured by TOPS has stimulated requests that they develop a smaller tool, with a wide blade, good cutting edge and the capability to pierce. This engaging tool was named after the very popular “Route 66” one of the first primary highways cutting its way across the USA.

The tool itself was designed to have an enhanced cutting edge (lots of surface edge) and a solid piercing point.

The fact that the tool is designed out of 1095 high carbon steel that is 1/8” thick, enables the carrier of the FDX 66 to keep it placed close to the body yet easily available. It has a skeletonized handle to keep the weight minimal, but provides excellent traction. The index finger cutout ensures a safe and secure grip while being used. The blade and handle are covered with a coyote tan finish to protect the steel from the elements.

The high quality leather sheath (100% US Steer hide), keeps the tool in a position that enables the user to draw it from either the vertical or horizontal positions.

    Strong and compact

Posted by Campfire on 28th Dec 2017

Excellent little big knife, so to speak, whose wide blade and stout spine make it strong and versatile, but whose stubby and skeletonised format make it thin and unobtrusive either on the belt or in a pocket. I tend to wander round in winter with my coat pockets stuffed with kit like a hamster. This is an ideal compromise when you want to have a strong fixed blade with you, but want to minimise bulk and weight. Perfect fit for the Nokia shaped mobile phone pocket of my shooting coat... I was slightly dubious about the coating, but after a couple of months it is holding up well, and I am very pleased. I cannot praise HH's lightning speed or brilliant customer service too highly: once again, amazing.

    Great knife

Posted by Outdoors Dad on 7th Nov 2015

I've had mine for about 2 years and it is one of my most carried when out in the field. Its flat, low profile just disappers when worn and you forget its even there. I carry mine horizontally at 11 0'clock and have done a small paracord wrap using the holes provided and this has improved the grip comfort. Don't be put off by the tanto shaping, the secondary point is much more "rounded" that in traditional tantos and as a result, cutting things is a smooth process with no snagging, This factor also makes it easier to maintain the edge on a DC4 or similar. I've said it before, that I hate TOPS knives, in my experience their customer servcie is the worst in the industry.... but credit where it's due, this is a nice little blade. A replacement for the Izula? Maybe not, but nice nonetheless. OD

    izula, watch out!

Posted by Dan on 23rd Jan 2014

This is my first Tops knife. Was thinking about buying an Esee Izula, and probably still will, but when I saw this added to HH, I thought I'm having that. For 53 quid it's a steel. You get a high carbon traction coated blade with a right belly on it. And the spear shape towards the point means it is an out and out piercing machine. It's not as thick as the Izula, shorter, but also heavier. So you get a more substantial feeling tool although its short and slim. I also love the big finger cut out. No chance of u slipping up the blade while in use. Super sharp otb and the leather sheath you get with it is quality. Holds blade tight and has laser etched Tops logo on it and can be carried horizontally or vertically. Think HH also threw in a Tops wistle for me too. Thanks guys
