Spyderco Yojimbo 2 Folding Knife

The Spyderco Yojimbo 2 is the second generation of the original Yojimbo folding knife designed by Michael Janich.

The heart of the Yojimbo 2 is its 7.9cm CPM-S30V wharncliffe blade. Unlike blades with a pronounced "belly" to the edge, its perfectly straight edge cuts with full power all the way to the point. This maximizes the cutting potential of the compact blade and also makes it a supremely functional utility tool.

The broad blade has a high hollow grind for exceptional edge geometry, while retaining a thick spine for strength and enough mass to ensure positive one-handed deployment.

    Yojumbo 2

Posted by Jason on 3rd May 2023

WOW. Definately a good buy if you like spyderco. I had one and sent back a while ago. But realising the action on this is literally a tiny flick. Such a lovely but evil looking blade. Razor.

    Spyderco Yojimbo 2

Posted by Grant Bailey on 3rd Mar 2021

I already have the Spyderco Ronin 2 attached (horizontally) to my LBT6904 below my magazine pouches, so it made sense (to me) to own a back-up blade that handles (feels) similar, so I purchased a Yojimbo 2, and I am very happy with the purchase. The blade is very sharp straight from the box, the locking mechanism is strong yet deploying the knife from the closed position is amazingly smooth and quick. The handle of the Yojimbo 2 is slightly longer than that of the Ronin 2 which I have found is a distinct advantage when wearing tactical gloves. As usual HH service was second to none, from ordering on a Tuesday morning I received the Yojimbo the next morning!

    A powerful package!

Posted by Kallisti on 29th Nov 2019

I was persuaded on the functionality of this knife when I cane across a video of Michael Janich explaining the concepts on Jerry Miculek's YouTube channel, followed by Janich's Evolution of Spyderco's Yojimbo 2 on the Martial Blade Concepts channel. I had the opportunity to train with Bram Frank many years ago & always regretted not getting his Gunting when Spyderco produced that. The Yojimbo 2 is an excellent knife for everyday use and multiple applications. It was a little smaller than I had imagined and like all Spyderco knives, more expansive than when I first started buying them. The quality however is evident - feels very secure & natural in the hand, love the blade geometry & the compression lock. An awesome package.

    Tip Strength

Posted by Big Al on 17th Jul 2019

Just a quick comment re a point raised by Jon L in a previous review regarding tip strength. One of the advantages of the hollow grind is in fact increased tip strength. Assuming same blade stock thickness and a full flat grind the blade would be thinner at all points down to the edge (assuming same behind the edge thickness in both cases) Imagine two lines drawn on the tip 'slope' down to the edge bevel - plenty of metal either side with the hollow grind. No probs with tip strength. Another advantage of the hollow grind - apart from its superb cutting ability - is the fact that a nice thin edge can be maintained with successive sharpening. A truly superb knife, a masterpiece !.

    Utility

Posted by Jack B on 15th May 2019

Ive had this for a couple of months now and deliberately waited to write a review. What a superb knife! I originally bought it because it was slightly different to most other folders out on the market. I was aware of the concept behind the design, which primarily was for SD, however its use as a utility blade is outstanding. From cutting up fruit, opening packaging and a multitude of other uses it really is a useful tool. The tip is needle like, so not meant for abuse, but strong enough to handle most tasks. The knife is light, opens easily with one hand and not too bulky in the pocket. A wharnecliffe makes a great blade for utility uses, and it's also easy to sharpen. Very pleased with this purchase and top marks to Heinnie as usual.

    wicked little thing!

Posted by Hillockgoat on 26th Apr 2019

Nice an slim but well sized, and I love the way the blade dominates the knifes form, beautifully made, with an ancient blade type that go's right back to the seax, so you know it will works for many tasks, excellent locking system and a good handle, all things get made with compromises, this knife has all its perimeters very well balanced so it easy to adapt too and that says to me it not perfect but is seriously good!

    Excellent

Fantastic knife fits really well in the hand and the Wharncliffe blade is my first of this design but it seems to work perfectly. It feels solid in your hand. Excellent service HH
